September seriously flew by! We had visitors for a good portion of the month and went crazy finalizing wedding details. Between all of the stress I was still able to get through my entire burn list though! This month, I burned 5 candles and 11 wax melts.

September 2017 Candle Empties

Leaves (3-wick) A classic cider scent we all know and love. This year’s version burned beautifully until there was 1/3 left and then it went on the melter. At first this gave me a migraine with it’s strength but after a while the intensity faded out. Not one you’d ever need to stock up on because it returns every year without fail.
Leaves (1-wick, x2) The tester candles can really be hit or miss and in this fragrance it was a miss. They were practically unscented even when put on the melter.
Cider Lane (3-wick) A beautiful caramel apple blend that is one of my absolute favorites. Unfortunatley, the 2017 version was lighter than the past and got a funky smell when burning. When put on the melter it lasted for a couple more days and was a bit stronger.
Warm Apple Pie (1-wick) Notoriously a light scent that didn’t let me down with it’s reputation. Around the half-way point it threw around a 2 which was it’s strongest point. Great scent, would never repurchase.

September 2017 Wax Empties

Apple Butter On cold this was extremely disappointing because it smelled like an apple chap stick. When melting though it transformed and a luxurious creamy note came out making it quite enjoyable. Still not something I’d buy again though as there are other scents I like more.
Welcome – Have you ever made play-doh out of Kool Aid? Because that’s what this smells like when melting; a fruit punch DIY play-doh that’s heavy on the apple. Not what I want to be smelling at all.
Honey Crisp Cider (x2) A straight up dupe for Leaves with a hint more woodiness. A great melt to have on hand to amp up the candle!
Harvest Moon (x2) If Leaves and Cider Lane were mixed together this would be what it smelled like. When melting it was definitely heavier on the CL nuances and I wasn’t upset about it at all. Go hoard this!
Cider House Donuts – A cinnamon sugared donut scent with some apple cider spices mixed in. It was definitely on the lighter side being a year old but still delicious while it lasted.
Apple Cider Donut – Compared to the Scentsationals version, this smelled much more realistic but was heavier on the cinnamon. After the scent was gone, you could still get whiffs of bakery cinnamon for a few more hours.
Caramel Applewood – Goose Creek’s version of Cider Lane that was very nice to melt alongside the candle. I probably won’t pick up anymore of these in the future though because I’m not a fan of the soft wax formula.
Apple S’mores – This is Scenty’s dupe for Radiant Red Maple that you’ve heard me talk about non-stop this month. Two cubes last 2-3 days and I am so happy I stocked up before they discontinued this scent!
Warm Apple Pie – An absolutely divine pie fragrance that is heavier on the crust note than the filling which I am totally okay with! I will buy this as long as Wal-Mart carried it.

September 2017 Fragrance Empties

Lakeside Sunrise (wallflower) My fiancé is obsessed with this fragrance but I’ve never been able to smell it. However, this wallflower really surprised me. It was fairly strong and I got whiffs of it all month long!
Leaves (wallflower) For a scent that is know to be extremely strong and induce migraines, the wallflower is so light it’s practicallyundetectable. It’s really unfortunate and I hope BBW eventually works on the formula in this form.
Cider Lane (wallflower) This form of Cider Lane was INCREDIBLE! The apple note wasn’t very prominent, but the unique caramel and vanilla blend was strong. If you’ve ever been to Mystic Village in CT this is exactly what the general store smells like. Highly recommend and I have stocked up like a mad woman!
Leaves (hand soap) Let’s be real here, this soap smells nothing like the iconic Leaves candle. That is until you are actually washing your hands. It’s odd that the scent activates at a certain point and I’m assuming that’s why it wasn’t brought back again this year.

The fall months are more about enjoyment rather than quantity when it comes to candles for me. I have an internal battle of wanting to downsize my stash but don’t want to burn through my favorite scents too fast! However, if I thought September went by fast, October is definitely going to go by in the blink of an eye with all of our upcoming plans. Stay tuned for more details!

In case you missed it in my most recent burn list, I’m dedicating the entire month of September to apple everything! When I think of the start of Fall my mind immediately goes to orchards, cider, apple crisp, and my favorite candles. It didn’t occur to me until last year how much I actually loved apples until I had a look at my stash and there were significantly less pumpkin fragrances. In honor of this lovely autumnal fruit, I’m going to be sharing my all-time favorite apple items with you!

Fall Fun Series | All About Apples | Favorite Apple Candles

My top 3 apple scented candles all come from Bath & Body Works; Leaves, Cider Lane, and Radiant Red Maple. I always start off September with Leaves which smells like a honeyed apple cider. Then I move onto the deliciously sweet caramel apple fragrance, Cider Lane. I unfortunately only have one more Radiant Red Maple in my collection and refuse to burn it since BBW hasn’t brought it back, but it’s a lovely blend of apples and marshmallow.

Fall Fun Series | All About Apples | Favorite Apple Wax Melts

I always enjoy amping up my candles with corresponding wax melts and these 3 just happen to be my favorites when it comes to apples. Apple S’mores is an exact dupe for Radiant Red Maple so I luckily can still enjoy the scent. Unfortunately Scentsy just retired this but if you can somehow still get your hands on it, do it! A great dupe for Cider Lane that’s available all year is Goose Creek’s Caramel Applewood. Finally, ScentSationals Warm Apple Pie is an amazing bakery scent with undertones of apple that’s absolutely divine.

Fall Fun Series | All About Apples | Favorite Apple Body Care

The only apple scented body care I’ve ever enjoyed was released from Bath & Body Works last year. Don’t let the name Pumpkin Apple Cider fool you. It’s a straight up mix of apple cider and apple pie that is absolutely incredible. I’m so sad I only have one body cream left and might just head on over to Ebay for some more, it’s that good!

If you live in New England or have ever visited in the fall, you’ll understand why I’m a bit addicted to apple scents. Everything I’ve shared today just embodies Autumn in my area. These scents bring me back to apple picking on a crisp day and the aroma of sweet treats at my local art festival. In my opinion, there’s honestly nothing better than these holy grail apple fragrances of mine! 😉

August has come and gone in the blink of an eye! I didn’t get to burn all the candles I had hoped to this month (mainly because Yankee’s take forever to get through) but am happy with what I did melt. This August I burned a total of 5 candles and 8 wax melts.

Berry Waffle Cone (3-wick) The best way to describe this delicious scent is by comparing it to a berry scone. It’s absolutely divine and I really hope you were able to get your hands on it! It threw around a 7 in my high-ceiling kitchen and lasted for almost a week on the candle melter.
Funnel Cake (1-wick) This scent smelled exactly like a greasy, buttery pastry with a hint of powdered sugar. Burning it was unscented but threw around a 6 on the candle melter. I’m assuming that’s why BBW only made this into a wallflower last year?
Pumpkin Banana Muffin (3-wick) Don’t let the title fool you, there is no pumpkin in this candle. This is actually a dupe for Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding from 2013. In this updated version there is definitely equal parts banana and walnut which for some reason made the fragrance smell like burnt bread at times. Unfortunately the candle only threw around a 5 and didn’t improve on the wax melter.
Summer Boardwalk (3-wick) – This was the weakest version of SB I’ve ever had. Most people get migraines from it’s strength and I could hardly smell it until putting it on the candle melter. Still a favorite fragrance of mine but the 2016 summer edition was a dud.
Sparkling Pear Riesling (1-wick) If you are a fan of Champagne Toast, this is essentially the fall version of it! Take out the citrus and replace it with pear and this is what you get. It’s a beautiful scent that BBW should’ve brought back. Also, this small jar was SO strong!

August 2017 Wax Empties

Sweet Plum Pastry – There are people who go crazy over this Scentsy fragrance and I’m not one of them. I don’t really get any bakery or sweet notes, just a dark berry and cinnamon. Maybe I got a dud? Either way I didn’t particularly enjoy this and am not too upset that it’s no longer available.
Corpsman (x2) If you follow me on Instagram, you know that this is now my all-time favorite fragrance! After the first 5 minutes of melting it for the first time, I immediately went and ordered several backups. This truly smells like graham crackers, buttery pie crust, and slightly savory zucchini bread mixed together. I never want to be without this!
Sweet Banana Bread – Now this was an amazing banana fragrance! There seemed to be more of a caramel note than banana but I didn’t mind at all. I might pick up another melt in this if I place another Goose Creek order again.
Banner – On cold I thought this was just a dupe for Summer Boardwalk, but it transformed when melting. The caramel note overpowers everything else and I really wasn’t a fan.
At the Fair – This is 100% a dupe for Summer Boardwalk, but better. The apple fritter note comes out so much more than the caramel corn in this version and I am obsessed with it. Why didn’t Wal-Mart release this again?! Thank goodness I still have a few stashed away.
Whipped Vanilla Pear – A pretty light pear fragrance from Scentsy with perfumey vanilla mixed in. Wasn’t the biggest fan and wouldn’t recommend.
Casting Spells – Another scent that smells completely different when melting. On cold it’s an interesting pear blend but smells like sweet potatoes warm. It’s very odd and I wasn’t impressed.

August 2017 Fragrance Empties

Pineapple Colada (hand soap) If you’re looking for a straight up pineapple soap scent, look no further. It was a nice summer fragrance that was very potent but unfortunately I’m just not that into pineapple scents.
Crisp Morning Air (hand soap) This may be one of my favorite fall soap scents ever! Think of walking around on a crisp fall day in an apple orchard and this is what you get; it’s fresh and slightly fruity. Hands down would repurchase if I didn’t already have back-ups!
Sea Island Cotton (body wash) This form of my favorite soap scent was just as amazing and lingered. I need to forever have back-ups of this fresh fragrance!
Summer Marshmallow (body cream) Even though this body cream from last summer has lost some of it’s peanut butter sugar vibes over time, it’s still one of my favorite body care scents ever! It’s a beautiful salty & sweet blend that I went through in 3 short weeks! Would forever repurchase and luckily have a decent stash still.
Crisp Morning Air (hand cream) I’m so sad to have finished this as it’s an incredibly unique fresh apple scent that BBW didn’t bring back in this form for this year.
Eucalyptus Spearmint (wallflower, x2) These wallflowers were really strong for the first few days and then pretty much non-existent as the oil quickly discolored. While I could smell them I wasn’t really a fan and wouldn’t recommend.
Summer Boardwalk (wallflower) A strong wallflower for a couple weeks but not too overpowering. After a while though the oil darkened, stopped evaporating, and started to smell like Pumpkin Caramel Latte.

My home definitely smelled wonderful this month and there were even several times I was complimented when people immediately came through my door. My absolute favorites of the month were Berry Waffle Cone and Corpsman! I seriously could’ve melted just those 2 fragrances throughout the month but didn’t want to totally deplete my stash. While I’m sad the month went by so quick, I’m so happy for fall scents to finally fill my space again in September!

May always tends to be a slow burning month in my home due to spring allergies. Combine that with still trying to get settled in the new house plus being busy every weekend and you get the slowest month of melting in well over a year. This past May I burned through only ONE candle and 4 wax melts.

May 2017 Candle Empties - Melting with Michelle

Berry Vanilla Bean (3-wick) – This candle smelled like a mixed berry buttercream frosting. It was a really nice spring fragrance but I hoped a bakery note would come through while burning. It threw really well in our new space and had a strength around a 7. It burned flawlessly and I recommend seeking it out during SAS if this is a type of scent you’re interested in.

May 2017 Wax Empties - Melting with Michelle

Blueberry Muffin – This truly smelled like a fresh baked muffin with a slight blueberry undertone and I really enjoyed it in melt form. I would absolutely repurchase if the price was right; Kringle’s melt prices are a bit steep for such a small amount of wax.
Blueberry Cake Donut – On cold this was an amazing blueberry icing fragrance with a donut bakery base. However, I think this melt was a bit too old because it smelled like a sweet crayon when melting. Probably wouldn’t bother repurchasing.
Strawberry Swirl – A really sweet strawberry milkshake fragrance from Scentsy that I wish I could still get my hands on! By itself it was too light but was totally amped up when mixed with Vanilla Cookie Crunch. A blend I wish I could melt for much longer!
Wild Berry Cheesecake – In the past I’ve described this as the best berry scent every created and I still stand by that. I honestly don’t need any other mixed berry scents for the future aside from this one, that’s how good it is. Go to your local Wal-mart and sniff it out for yourself!

May 2017 Fragrance Empties - Melting with Michelle

Berry Vanilla Bean (wallflower) – The wallflower version of the scent was even heavier than the candle and I didn’t care for it much. After a few weeks it became really discolored so I just took it out before all the oil evaporated.
Lemon Mint Leaf (wallflower) – This fragrance was so light that I hardly smelled it at all. Once the oils became discolored it started emitting an awful rotten scent. I wouldn’t repurchase this again in any form factor and will probably use anything left in my stash as decor.
Golden Autumn Day (hand cream) – Being the second hand cream in this scent that I’ve finished up within the past six months, I think it’s safe to say I adore the scent and formula. It’s very refreshing with apple undertones and is long-lasting. Hoping they’ll bring this back again in the fall!
Sweet Lemon Buttercream (body cream) – A really soft & creamy lemon fragrance perfect for the spring! I’m already stocked up and highly suggest picking some up during SAS!
Lemon Buttercream (hand soap) – Like the last soap in this fragrance that I used in March, it had hardly any lemon notes and was very astringent. Happy not to have anymore left in my stash and will be very weary of lemon soaps in the future!
Cotton Blossom (hand soap) – This was a repackage of Sea Island Cotton which is my favorite hand soap. It’s fresh, clean, and the scent lingers. Hands down will always repurchase this fragrance no matter what it is called!

May was definitely a slow burning month and I have a feeling June will be very similar. I’m still trying to find the optimum place to burn candles for maximum throw and honestly don’t have a burn list planned. What scents do you think I should melt next month to get out of this slump? Share in the comments!

March flew by! We didn’t end up moving yet again and did quite a bit of traveling instead. Because of this, I was able to melt through my entire burn list with a few extras too. During this floral transition month, I burned 6 candles and 9 wax melts.

March 2017 Candle Empties

Sugar Flower (1-wick) – Imagine a light vanilla cake with fondant frosting, this candle smells exactly like that with slight undertones of lavender. It was very light and threw around a 2 in my small kitchen. Even when I finished it off on the candle warmer did it only throw around a 4. At this point, I’m done purchasing Pure Radiance candles and only have 1 left in my collection to finish up.
Lavender Macaron (3-wick) – This was a beautiful blend of lavender, bakery, and black currant. When burning, it only threw around a 6 and ended up having PWS. On the candle warmer it threw around an 8. This remains one of my favorite blends BBW ever released and I’m happy to have a few more back-ups!
Champagne Toast (3-wick) – A candle we all know and love, this smells like sweet effervescent tangerines. One of the best burning candles I’ve had from BBW in a while with high flames, a gorgeous wax pool, and a 9 throw. Hoping my other back-ups from this past year will perform just as well!
Mocha Latte Swirl (3-wick) – If you’re looking for a creamy, sweet, coffee scent – this is the one for you! There is a top note of coffee, mid-notes of vanilla and caramel, and a bottom note of cocoa. It threw around an 8 and I wish they’d bring this back!
Tea & Lemon (3-wick) – This fragrance was a wonderful combination of slightly sweetened tea and squeezed lemon. It was a great transition candle that performed extremely well and threw around an 8. I would hands down buy this again if they ever brought it back.
Jelly Beans (1-wick) – A wonderful grape scent with undertones of berry and lemon that unfortunately only threw around a 4. I got this back in 2014 on a super sale and while I enjoyed the actual fragrance, I wouldn’t pick it up again based on the performance.

March 2017 Wax Empties

Rose Soda (x2) – If you are a floral person, you’d probably love this fragrance. It was a generic rose scent that lacked any fizzy soda note like the name suggests. I mixed it with Vanilla Cookie Crunch and it was pretty much undetectable at that point. Ultimately this was a disappointment.
Pink Tulips – Oh my gosh, I really wish Scentsy still sold this fragrance! This past month I tried out florals for the first time and this was hands down my favorite. This was floral and fruity combined which was absolutely lovely throughout my home! If they ever bring this back I will hoard it.
Umbridge – On cold this smells like a rose tea but when warming you get the slightest hint of a salty bakery treat, it was amazing! If I ever want a rose fragrance again in the future, this will be my go-to choice. (Plus it’s Harry Potter themed, what more could you want?)
Pink Velvet (x2) – A wonderful sugary scent with notes of bakery and citrus. A favorite melt of mine that I never want to be without!
Sipping Tea – This is very similar to BBW Tea & Lemon, but a little lighter on the lemon note and has a different type of tea base. Still lovely and very much enjoyable.
Jelly Beans (x2) – I really wanted to amp up the candle with the melt form of the fragrance, but this was too old and unscented. I actually threw out my second Jelly beans and don’t plan on buying anymore Yankee Candle wax melts.

March 2017 Fragrance Empties

Winter Rose (wallflower) – Just like the candle, this smells like a straight up rose scent. The fragrance didn’t travel far but did last until the oil evaporated half-way through the month.
Lavender Macaron (wallflower) – I didn’t have high hopes for this wallflower based on bad reviews. However I was able to smell it throughout the entire month in the close vicinity of the actual plugin.
Cotton Blossom (hand soap)
 – This was a repackage of Sea Island Cotton which is my favorite hand soap. It’s fresh, clean, and the scent lingers for hours. Hands down will always repurchase this fragrance no matter what it is called!
Lemon Buttercream (hand soap) – Last year, everyone was hyping this fragrance up so I purchased a few without actually using it. That was a mistake because this smells like a sweetened alcohol. There’s hardly any lemon fragrance and the astringent alcohol note lingers on your hands.
Merry Cookie (hand sanitizer) – I’ve been working on this little guy since December and the worst part, I wasn’t impressed by the scent. Sure, it’s a typical sweet and sugary fragrance. But mixed with the alcohol it just didn’t smell “right” and I wanted to wash my hands after using it.

While I enjoyed almost everything I melted this month, the outstanding favorite was Umbridge by Super Tarts. I’m happy to be moving on from florals this upcoming month and focusing on fresh citrus scents!

Even though February is the shortest month of the year, it felt pretty long to me! Maybe it’s because we’ve been waiting for our official move date or due to the several big snow storms followed by 70 degree weather. No matter the reason, it was an enjoyable burning month for me – I got through 8 candles and 7 wax melts!

February 2017 Candle Empties

Macaron Treats (1-wick) – This didn’t exactly smell like a macaron to me, more like a light almond-vanilla cake. There wasn’t an overpowering almond extract note which I really appreciated. It’s definitely a gourmand fragrance but unfortunately only threw at about 2 in my small bathroom.
Christmas Cakes (1-wick) – On cold, this truly smelled like the Little Debbie christmas tree cakes. It’s pretty much a vanilla and white chocolate combination, also more of a gourmand fragrance than straight up bakery. Unfortunately, there was absolutely 0 throw while burning in my small bathroom.
Peanut Butter Cookie (2-wick) – For any BBW Hot Cocoa & Cream lovers, this is pretty much an exact dupe. Burning this smells like a freshly baked brownie with the slightest undertone of salty peanuts. This was my first Crossroads candle; it threw at a 9 the entire time and burned flawlessly.
Peanut Butter Sugar (3-wick) – An all-time favorite fragrance of mine that I’ve mentioned often, however this was the first time I burned it in candle form. It was even better than the wax melt and threw at a steady 7 the entire time! Truly an amazing salty, sweet candle for this time of year that I would pick up again without second guessing.
Honey Lavender Gelato (1-wick) – In true Yankee fashion, this was practically unscented. What little I could smell was kind of sour which was disappointing because on cold it’s a smooth berry fragrance. I really wanted to love this but won’t be picking it up again in any form factor.
Chocolate Pistachio (3-wick) – Wow, this smelled truly amazing. It was all peanut with bottom notes of chocolate and seriously smelled like a Snickers bar. While it threw around a 7 it continuously got PWS, had to be cotton-balled, and struggled to pool out. If BBW brings this back I’ll pick it up again but won’t stock up because it’s a unique scent that I would only burn during February.
Cinnamon Sugared Doughnut (3-wick) – Can you believe that I’ve never burned CSD before? It’s a beautiful blend of bakery dough, a touch of cinnamon, and a slight greasiness. This unfortunately only threw around a 4 or 5 and had thick, chubby wicks. I wasn’t impressed with this version but would definitely give a stronger iteration a try.
Winter Rose (1-wick) – I am not a floral person but this fragrance was really nice! It’s definitely all rose but had a clean type of scent to it. It took a while to pool out but once it did it threw around an 8. I wouldn’t be quick to pick it up again but did enjoy it while it lasted!

February 2017 Wax Empties

Sparkling Cream Soda – When I first purchased this wax melt in 2016 it was a beautiful bubbly blend of creamy vanilla. However, after a short 4 months this lost 98% of it’s scent. It also had glitter mixed into the wax which was terrible to clean out of my dishes. I didn’t even bother finishing the entire clamshell.
Merry Berry Linzer
(x2) – This was a really sweet bakery scent perfect to melt alongside some of the other chocolate fragrances this month. The top notes were a fruity mixture of raspberry and cherries with a delicious undertone of shortbread cookie. Very happy to have a couple more backups of this!
Eskimo Kiss – This is a really unique fragrance; there is an effervescent fruity note combined with spun sugar. Even though it sounds so obviously sweet it almost has a fresh quality to it too. The combination is just beautiful and this could really be warmed any time of the year. Hoping Scentsy brings this back next Winter!
Cotton Candy Cookie – True to it’s name, this was a very strong spun sugar scent with undertones of lemon and raspberry. It really was a delicious fragrance that threw well but lacked a bakery note.
Candy Dandy –  A pretty underwhelming and basic sugar candy fragrance. Think of getting sweethearts, sweet tarts, etc and throwing them all in a bowl and melting it down. Nothing exciting and it barely threw.
Sugared Cinnamon Donut – This was an insanely strong cinnamon vanilla fragrance but lacked a realistic bakery note. It was nice but I don’t plan on picking it up again.

February 2017 Home Fragrance Empties

Lavender Vanilla (wallflowers) – I am a big fan of lavender scents when they are done right, unfortunately for BBW this version was just wrong. It’s straight up lavender and vanilla essential oil. Combined they are not pleasing and it smells like a mixture of products you’d be using when changing a baby’s diaper. Of course, these wallflowers were great throwers too for the first week and then quickly dudded out.
White Birch & Vanilla (hand soap) – I’m usually a seasonal fragrance girl so this was pretty out of the ordinary for me to use since it smelled somewhere in between the Autumn and Leaves candles from BBW. A very nice scent that I still enjoyed even though it was very misplaced for February.
Gingerbread Latte (body cream) – To me, this was more of a delicious sugar cookie scent than BBW’s other fan favorite Vanilla Bean Noel. This was absolutely perfect for the holidays and had a hint of nutmeg reminiscing beloved holiday treats.

February was certainly a sweet melting month! My favorite fragrance was probably Chocolate Pistachio which I really wasn’t expecting. I was able to melt through everything on my burn list (and then some) and can’t wait to get into some transitional Spring scents in March!

Last month I stayed away from sweeter scents, but in February I’m ready to dive back into all the delicious gourmand fragrances. I think it’s the heart shaped boxes filled with chocolate that get me back in the mood for sweets. This month I’m continuing to keep my burn list fairly reasonable since we have yet to move and it could happen anytime now.

CANDLES

• Peanut Butter Cookie“Crushed peanuts, buttercream, cocoa, and vanilla”
• Macaron Treats – “The classic Parisian macaron – sweet as can be and lighter than air, with notes of vanilla, almond and, of course, sugar”
• Chocolate Pistachio“Pistachio, chocolate truffle, and white powdered sugar”
• Christmas Cakes“Celebrate the season with a delicious blend of sugar, candy floss, marshmallow, butter and lemon while a background of brown sugar, vanilla bean and tonka leaves mouths watering.”
• Cinnamon Sugared DoughnutFreshly-baked vanilla cake doughnut covered in sugar crystals and crushed cinnamon.”

WAX MELTS

• Eskimo Kiss“Blackberry jam, caramelized brown sugar, vanilla, and amber in a softly romantic scent.”
• Merry Berry Linzer“Jammy raspberry filling nestled in almond shortbread with a vanilla glaze.”
• Sparkling Cream Soda“An old fashioned soda shop classic having all the bubbly notes frothing over the glass with the truly characteristic, caramelized sugar and vanilla cream aroma.”
• Sugared Cinnamon Donut – “A mouthwatering mix of cinnamon sugar, vanilla bean, and raw sugarcane poured over a warm homemade donut for an ultimate, fresh baked scent.”

I have no doubt that I’ll be able to get through this list – I actually might need to pace myself. I really want to burn the chocolate scents around Valentine’s Day and the donut ones at the end of the month. If I do get through everything quicker than expected I’ll probably start burning Hot Cocoa & Cream, Mocha Latte Swirl, and Peanut Butter Sugar. Nevertheless this is definitely going to be a sickeningly sweet month and not because of the holiday! 😉

While November was a slower burning month, I certainly made up for it in December! I unfortunately was home sick for half of the month giving me much more time burn candles! (Priorities, right?) At this point I’m traveling for the remainder of the year and won’t be melting much of anything else. I tried to stay with a festive theme throughout December and ended up burning 12 candles and 12 wax melts!

December 2016 Candle Empties

Marshmallow Fireside (3-wick & 1-wick) – I always kick off December with this classic scent. It’s both sweet and smoky creating a cozy atmosphere perfect for this time of year. If I didn’t have so many other candles to go through I would probably just burn this all month long. The 3-wick performed great until the last third and the 1-wick’s barely threw at all.
Cozy Cabin (1-wick) – This is Kringle’s version of MF but the smoky note is more detectable than the sweet. It would’ve been enjoyable if I could even smell it burning. It had a throw of about 2 when I was standing over it. Yet another disappointment from that company.
Peppermint Marshmallow (3-wick) – I think this is my favorite peppermint scent to burn during this season. Have you ever had a thin peppermint cocoa crisp cookie? That’s the best way to describe this, it smells like a crisp you’ve just broken in half. The marshmallow note in the name is more of sweet cocoa rather than true marshmallow. Either way it’s a delicious fragrance with decent throw!
Red Velvet Cupcake (3-wick) – Another favorite fragrance to burn during the month, especially while baking Christmas cookies! It’s a rich chocolate fragrance that throws around a 8. While amazing it can become overpowering fairly quick.
Winter Mint & Spruce (3-wick) – This was a spur of the moment purchase during the 8.50 candle sale. If there wasn’t that woodsy spruce bottom note, it would’ve probably smelled like toothpaste. I burned this in the mornings and while cleaning. It threw around an 8 and had a gorgeous wax color. While I enjoyed it I probably wouldn’t repurchase.
Peppermint Cocoa (1-wick) – I was absolutley obsessed with this Kringle fragrance on cold – it smelled like an Andes thin mint chocolate. However, when burning the peppermint and cocoa notes didn’t mix well together. OF COURSE this was the one candle from the company that threw around a 5.
Winter Night (1-wick) – This is a throwback fragrance from at least 3 years ago that I needed to de-stash. It didn’t have a great throw (possibly because it’s old) and smells almost identical to Winter. There is the slightest hint of smokiness thrown in and possibly another woodsy note. I’m not really surprised this hasn’t made a comeback.
Hot Cocoa & Cream (3-wick) – The infamous new scent of the season! It smells exactly hot cocoa mix on cold but freshly baked brownies out of the oven when burning. It throws around an 8 and burned great. I really enjoy it and have already stocked up – this is really the only true chocolate candle I have in my collection!
Smoked Vanilla (3-wick) – This is really a unique fragrance! At first you might think it’s just a repackage of MF but there is definitely much more smokiness. The smokiness also has an underlying note of bacon which is not a bad thing. Any vanilla in this candle is at the bottom and very subtle. It’s an absolutely wonderful fragrance to burn on winter morning’s and throws around a 7.
Winter (3-wick) – Another BBW classic! This is the only true outdoorsy fragrance I burn throughout the season and always light it up closer to Christmas. It truly smells like going outside during a fresh snowfall – it even makes my nose feel a bit cold! It throws around a 9 and will forever be a repurchase.
Merry Mint (DNF 1-wick) – On cold, this was the perfect creamy mint chocolate scent. Too bad it had absolutely 0 throw the handful of times I burned it and then smelling it on cold just smelled like burnt wax. I did not finish this terrible candle and am donating it to goodwill. Crossing my fingers that the other pure radiance candles do better than this one!

December 2016 Wax Empties

Santa’s Cookie Crumble – One of my last fragrance from Crossroads and it wasn’t too bad. It smelled almost exactly like BBW Cinnamon Sugared Donut without the greasiness. It’s not exactly what I associate with holiday cookies but enjoyable nonetheless.
Campfire Marshmallow – Goose Creek’s version of MF with a hint of toastiness. Enjoyable and would potentially repurchase closer to the holiday season next year.
Cozy Cabin – This smelled exactly like the candle already described but I could actually smell this while it lasted. Kringle’s melts don’t tend to last longer than 6-8 hours and are only worth it on a good deal.
Peppermint Cocoa – Again, this smelled exactly like the candle and wasn’t enjoyable due to the astringent fragrance when warm. I melted the 2 that I had on hand to get rid of them.
Milk & Cookies – Now this was a nice surprise from Yankee! It’s very comparable to CSD but with much more creaminess. It really was delicious and I went through the 3 tarts I had in stock. If they ever release this in candle form again I’ll probably pick it up.
Candy Cane Lane – Another peppermint fragrance I adore on cold but wasn’t the biggest fan of while melting. This is just straight up peppermint and I think you really need to be in the mood for it. I still have a full large jar in my collection and have a feeling it will take a while to burn through in the coming years.
First Snow – This is Kringle’s version of Winter but with a hint more citrus and was quite nice. Not the strongest wax melt and I’ll probably just stick to the classic BBW scent going forward.
Eggnog – Scentsy nailed this fragrance, it smells EXACTLY like eggnog. However, it only smells like this for 2-3 hours and they just smells like candy before it doesn’t have any oils left at all. Even though this is the biggest let down burn-wise from Scentsy, it’s still wonderful while it lasts.
Rum Raisin Cookie – Another fragrance that Scentsy nailed. It truly smells like a freshly baked raisin cookie with an undertone of rum extract. It’s delicious and perfect for the holiday season! I highly recommend giving it a try when you’re placing your next order!

December 2016 Fragrance Empties

Cookies for Santa (soap) – This was a very sweet & sugary fragrance but didn’t smell like any cookies I’ve ever baked or had. It was nice but nothing to go crazy for.
Marshmallow Fireside (wallflower) – I was only able to get whiffs of this throughout the month which was disappointing since it’s an all-time favorite fragrance of mine. I’ll continue to try the scent in this form every year though.
Hot Cocoa & Cream (wallflower) – This had the same effect while warming and smelled like freshly baked brownies. It’s an odd fragrance to have as a wallflower but luckily it didn’t throw much after the first week.

I really enjoyed the sweet scents filling my home throughout December and I really can’t choose a favorite! I’ll be narrowing down my favorites of the entire year later this week in my 2016 recap, but in the meantime tell me what you burned through this month in the comments below!

October, the month of pumpkin everything. It was definitely another busy month for me; between seeing Harry Potter in theaters, visiting the Jack-O-Lantern Spectactular, trying on wedding dresses, carving pumpkins, and doing other Halloween activities I still had a mountain of work to catch up on too. Through all of that I managed to burn 9 candles and 8 wax melts.

October 2016 Candle Empties

Forbidden Apple (1-wick) – This medium jar from Yankee was a disappointment; it only threw at about a 2 and I really didn’t like the lack of visibility due to the black jar. It’s a basic apple scent and I will not repurchase if it sticks around next year.
Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake (3-wick) – Don’t be fooled, this fragrance does not have any pumpkin notes in it. It is a wonderful spiced cheesecake scent perfect for October. However, half-way through it started smelly really funky and I couldn’t stomach it any longer.
Pumpkin Pie (3-wick & 1-wick) – I burned through 2 large & 1 small jars of this fragrance and it was wonderful while it lasted. I say that because I had to put them all on candle warmers due to poor performance. This is truly the ultimate pumpkin fragrance that I hope always returns.
Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (3-wick) – This scent was definitely altered from past years but I really loved it! It threw great and burned almost the entire way without issues. Not something to stock up on because BBW will always bring this back.
Pumpkin Spice (3-wick) – A fragrance that is almost identical to Pumpkin Pie but lacking the buttery crust note. It only threw at about a 3 and was completely unmemorable.
Pumpkin Cupcake (3-wick) – What a wonderfully spicy vanilla scent that will forever be perfect for this month. It threw great and was strong but eventually had to be put on the warmer.
Pumpkin Buttercream (3-wick) – I absolutely adore this fragrance on cold sniff – it is pretty comparable to Pumpkin Cupcake. However, it barely threw in my small kitchen which was a disappointment.

October 2016 Wax Empties

Caramel Butter – Goose Creek either does scents really good or really bad and this was one of the bad ones. This smelled like burnt caramel and was just repulsive. I was able to slightly save it by mixing it with Vanilla Cookie Crunch but would never re-purchase or recommend.
Cider Mill – On cold sniff, this fragrance didn’t really impress me but it totally transformed while melting. It was pretty comparable to BBW Pumpkin Apple which is a wonderful mixture of all the best Fall scents. This was nice to have in the background but didn’t last very long – I probably wouldn’t repurchase this one either.
Pumpkin Spice Muffin – This truly did smell like a pumpkin muffin on cold sniff, however it lost it’s bakery note while melting. It was still nice but nothing outstanding to spend money on again in the future.
A Thankful Harvest – A 2015 exclusive scent that was amazing! It was a creamy pumpkin apple fragrance that was amped up in comparison to other fragranced like Cider Mill. I really enjoyed this and if it ever came back out I’d stock up on a few.
Cider House Donuts – I talked more about this amazing fragrance last month and couldn’t help melting another clamshell of it before the season was over! I’ll repurchase as long as it’s available.
Pumpkin Cinnamon Ice Cream – While you would expect this to be a creamy fragrance it just smelled like straight up cinnamon. Another disappointment from Goose Creek.
Pumpkin Roll – This was a comparable scent to BBW Pumpkin Cupcake and really amped up that candle. The major difference is that this wax melt actually has a pumpkin note in it. I’ll probably repurchase this fragrance again next year but it’s still not hoard worthy.
Carrot Cake – Last but not least this was my favorite wax melt of the month – a scent that Goose Creek did really great! This smells EXACTLY like a freshly baked carrot cake with a hint of cream cheese frosting. Amazing and 100% stocking up!

October 2016 Fragrance Empties

Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake (wallflower) – Finally a wallflower that released fragrance for an entire  month – too bad it smelled nothing like the candle. This smelled almost like chocolate which is not what I wanted during October.
Pumpkin Pie (wallflower) – Another wallflower that luckily released fragrance all month long and this was the pumpkin pie scent I know and love. Forever a repurchase.
Pumpkin Cupcake (hand soap) – This is one of my favorite fall soaps and smells just like the candle. I will probably repurchase as long as BBW offers it.
Pumpkin Apple Cider (body cream) – I am not a fan of apple body care scents but this was delicious. It was really a cider fragrance that I couldn’t get enough of! If you can still find this in stores I’d pick it up on sale because BBW probably won’t release it again in the future.
Pumpkin Pie (hand sanitizer) – This form of the incredible Pumpkin Pie fragrance was definitely lacking. It smelled strongly of pumpkin but lacked the buttery crust note.

I’ve always looked forward to pumpkin fragrances every year but I think I’ve come to the realization that apple fragrances are much more enjoyable. There were definitely more scents that I didn’t enjoy in October than I did enjoy. I’ll have to keep that in mind for years to come and really narrow down my collection. Looking back on all my empties my absolute favorite was oddly Carrot Cake which although spicy, I associate with January. (It’s my fiancee’s favorite cake and I always make it for his birthday at the beginning of the year.) No matter, I’m looking forward to burning some more outdoorsy fragrances for this upcoming November!

Even though June was a hot month in Rhode Island, that didn’t stop me from burning through a good chunk of my stash! The summer solstice definitely influenced what I was burning and I ended up melting 7 candles, 6 wax melts, and 2 wallflowers. Here is the complete list of empties:

June 2016 Candle Empties

Midnight Blue Citrus (3-wick candle) – I posted an in-depth review of this at the beginning of the month so I won’t go into too much detail now. Long story short, this was the perfect candle to kick-off my Summer seasonal burns. I really enjoyed it while it lasted but I don’t necessarily need it in my collection.

Island Margarita (3-wick candle) – I really liked this scent on cold in the store and figured it would help get me in the Summer spirit. I actually really didn’t like this candle when burning though. All I could smell was the salted rim of a tropical drink and it just put me off. My fiancé enjoyed it though so when it got puny wick syndrome, I finished it on the warmer. I’ll never repurchase this scent in any form again.

Bahama Fizz (3-wick candle) – This was one of the first candles that started my obsession back in 2012 & I made my first tarts with it. You could almost smell the rum mixed into this fruity fragrance! If BBW ever re-released this I’d probably pick it up again.

Mocha Latte Swirl (3-wick candle) – This is my favorite coffee fragrance to date and I’ve been working on this candle for several months now. It’s the perfect mix of bitter espresso, creamy caramel, and a hint of cocoa. I have hoarded several more already!

Summer Trio (1-wick candle) – This trio candle from Yankee included Summer Scoop, Merry Marshmallow, and Salted Caramel. I loved that it looked like neopolotin ice cream but hated that it barely threw. This definitely was far from my favorite.

Watermelon Lemonade (1-wick candle) – A tried and true scent that we all know and love. I’ll always repurchase but never hoard it.

Seashore (1-wick candle) – Another scent I picked up back in 2012 and really enjoyed this past month! It had a slight undertone of suntan lotion but blended perfectly with salty beach air. It really reminded me of my high school beach days 😉

June 2016 Wax Empties

Fresh Pulled Taffy (wax melt) – This was a scent I was SO excited about. It was a beautiful balance of sea salt, caramel, and strawberry. The melt was very sweet but didn’t throw. I could barely smell this in my small bedroom which was a major disappointment. Glad I gave it a try but won’t repurchase due to the performance.

Sevn’ Up Pound Cake (wax crumbles) – For the past 2 months, I’ve been searching for the perfect lemon-lime scent and this is it! Not only is the balance between citrus and bakery notes done SO well, but you even get a slight fizziness mixed in. I honestly can’t get enough and am thinking of doing a major haul next time Wax Crumbles is stocked!

Blueberry Cheesecake (wax melt) – This is an exact dupe of Wild Berry Cheesecake and the throw was equally amazing. I’ll stick with WBC in the future though due to accessibility and wax texture.

Peanut Butter Sugar (wax melt) – YUM! I also posted an in-depth review for this lovely scent a couple weeks ago. Without too much detail, this was the perfect balance of salty peanuts, warm vanilla, and a waffle cone. Will repurchase forever.

Country Breakfast (wax melt) – This was a nice scent to burn on weekend mornings. It had notes of maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and a hint of apple. While it was pleasant enough, I’m not in a hurry to repurchase.

Watermelon Patch (wax melt) – I love anything and everything watermelon during the Summer. This was an equally delicious fruity scent but definitely had a grassy note mixed in. Compared to other fragrances on the market this was a refreshing & unique blend. I still have plenty other watermelon candles to get through next month though so I’ll hold off on repurchasing.

Caribbean Escape (wallflower) – A great fruity scent that got me in the mood for Summer, but I could barely smell it. This is a Slatkin era version and had trouble evaporating.

Bahama Fizz (wallflower) – Another Slatkin era wallflower that I could hardly smell and barely evaporated. So over it!

Out of everything I melted this past month, Sevn’ Up Pound Cake was my absolute favorite scent! I’ve gotten through the majority of my fruity fragrances and am looking forward to burn some other favorites in my collection next month. What did you melt this month and which was your favorite? Share in the comments!
