Ah, December – the busiest time of the year. Between the Christmas shopping, present wrapping, rush project deadlines, and holiday travels I didn’t have much time to focus on my burning. As you can see above, that is all I was able to enjoy throughout this final month of the year. Nevertheless, let’s dive in to my thoughts.

Marshmallow Fireside

Bath & Body Works, 3-wick

Yes
A classic fragrance that no matter the performance or throw I will always repurchase and burn.

Spiced Vanilla Embers

No
This is a knock-off version of Marshmallow fireside in every way possible and wasn’t at all impressive.

Merry Cookie

Bath & Body Works, hand soap

Repurchase?
No
If it wasn’t for a sale earlier in the season, I never would’ve picked this scent up. There is something about the fragrance that just doesn’t smell like an authentic cookie to me which isn’t enjoyable. Fairly happy that it didn’t linger after washing my hands.

Marshmallow Fireside

Bath & Body Works, wallflower

Again, a favorite December scent of mine. Even though this version didn’t perform I’ll try it again next year.

I adore this fragrance in candle form but wasn’t too fond of it like this. It wasn’t all that detectable in my small office area at any point in the month.

Peppermint Brownie

Repurchase?
No
I am SO confused by this fragrance. In this form it smelled like a bakery lavender combination. I didn’t mind it at all but wasn’t what I wanted at the time and didn’t match the scent description at all.

In 2018 I burned 46 Candles & 39 Wax Melts!

As we wrap up this year it’s sad to see that my melting has reduced 50% since 2016 yet my collection has hardly dwindled. With that being said, I think it’s time to take a break from this blog as its taken the enjoyment out of fragrances for me and made it into more of a chore. I do still plan to track my empties but on a simple spreadsheet. If you still want to keep up with what I’m burning, check it out HERE.

Hoping you all have a wonderful 2019! 🙂

December was yet again another month of insanity in my household. Aside from all of our holiday preparations/travels, I was sick for the majority of the month. This led me to having no desire to burn candles or melt wax. With that being said I was able to get through 3 candles and 3 wax melts in this last month of the year!

December 2017 Candle Empties

Chestnut & Clove (3-wick) I’ve always had the best luck with this transitional scent in the past, but it didn’t perform too great in my open concept house. It was somewhat enjoyable but just didn’t stand out.
Marshmallow Fireside (3-wick) This was hands down the worst version of MF I’ve ever experienced. It had puny wicks from the very first burn and didn’t throw at all, even when placed on the melter. An extreme let down as I look forward to burning it every year in December.
White Mint Latte (3-wick) A surprisingly incredible candle all around! You really got whiffs of cocoa, mint, and coffee. Not only that but the burn was flawless and it threw all the way to the second floor of my house. Finally a hit for BBW!

December 2017 Wax Empties

Marshmallow Candy Cane – I’m not the biggest peppermint fan but this fragrance was fantastic! It had the perfect combination of peppermint and vanilla and performed beautifully.
Cozy Chai – An incredibly strong, spicy scent perfect for cozying up during the holiday. Next time I place a Scentsy order, I’ll probably pick up a couple more bars.
Rum Raisin Cookie – I stand by what I said last year – this smells like a freshly baked raisin cookie with an undertone of rum extract. It’s very enjoyable however Scentsy unfortunately discontinued the fragrance.

December 2017 Wallflower Empties

Marshmallow Fireside (wallflower) This was a very old wallflower and quite strange as it only threw in one spot far away and not in it’s immediate surrounding. When I could smell it, I did enjoy it.
White Mint Latte (wallflower) The throw on this wallflower threw great! For the first 24 hours. Then it was non-existent, aka a total waste of money.

I was pretty bummed that I didn’t have the chance to burn through more of my stash as December is one of my favorite times of the year for fragrances. I did have an enjoyable holiday though and hope you all did too!

Moving into 2018, I plan on restructuring my empty posts as they tend to be a bit wordy. Is there anything you would definitely like to see included or not included going forward? Share in the comments!

October was certainly another busy yet magical month! I unfortunately didn’t get to appreciate all of the pumpkin-loving fall activities that I usually do, but for a good reason. I finally got married mid-October and spent that last week and a half of the month in Florida on my honeymoon! Between all of the craziness, I was only able to burn 3 candles and focused more on melting 7 wax melts.

October 2017 Candle Empties

Pumpkin Cupcake (1-wick, x2) A delectable fall “favorite” that we all know smells like a spiced vanilla cupcake. These have been the strongest tester candles I’ve had so far throwing around a 5 and burning very evenly!
Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake (3-wick) This 2016 version of PSC was on the lighter side and had major burn issues. The candle corrected itself but performed much better on the melter.

October 2017 Wax Empties

Spiced Cupcakes – A dupe for BBW’s Pumpkin Cupcake but much heavier on the spice note. It was nice to melt alongside the candles, but nothing I’d purchase again.
Pumpkin Butter Cookies – On cold this pretty much smelled like a spiced cookie with hints of ginger. However, when melting a strong bakery cinnamon note was prominent that I didn’t really care for.
Spiced Pumpkin Swirl – There was very little sweetness to this scent essentially making it a straight up pumpkin bread fragrance, and I adored it. When melting, a salty note seemed to come out and it was really enjoyable. The only problem with AmbiEscents is that the wax doesn’t last very long on the melter.
Moonlit Magic Pumpkin (x2) At first sniff, you may think this is just another cologne scent. However, when melting, a gorgeous & true pumpkin bread note comes out. It is absolutely incredible and this is coming from someone who doesn’t enjoy cologne fragrances. I highly recommend picking this up and myself have already stocked up!
Perfect Pumpkin Ale – I did not enjoy this as much as I did back in 2016. It definitely smells straight up like a pumpkin beer, but the ale note is much more prominent. Beer drinkers would probably love this but I am no longer a fan.
Pumpkin Patch Maze – This is such an authentic pumpkin fragrance with a hint of earthiness yet still some creaminess. I found that melting it by itself was a bit overwhelming, but mixed with Vanilla Cookie Crunch it was divine. I have already stocked up for next year!

October 2017 Fragrance Empties

Boardwalk Vanilla Cone (hand sanitizer) This smells identical to the hand soap; delicious, buttery, and sweet! It really is the perfect scent to use all year round. I really hope BBW brings this back next Summer so I can stock up on more!
Pumpkin Cupcake (wallflower) I was able to get whiffs of this during the first couple weeks, but it really wasn’t that strong. I probably won’t be picking anything else in the fragrance up again going forward unless it’s on a crazy good deal.
Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake (wallflower) There is a reason I got a ton of these wallflowers for 75% off during a past SAS – it’s very odd when plugged in. It’s not a bad fragrance, I just don’t expect to get a white chocolate note from it. This faded out over the first couple of weeks too.
Pumpkin Pie (wallflower) This was a wonderful pumpkin background fragrance that I got whiffs of all month. I wish it was a bit stronger but would hands down repurchase if BBW brought it back again.
Golden Autumn Day (hand soap) A fragrance that’s very reminiscent of crisp fall air; there is definitely more of a citrus note in this but overall pleasant.
Pumpkin Apple Cider (body lotion) An incredible apple fragrance that smells like an authentic cider when applied and a pie when dried. It lingers and is worth the eBay purchase as it’s a retired scent.
Salted Caramel Pumpkin (body lotion) Before applying, this is identical to the beloved Summer Marshmallow from 2016. Yet, when applying there is a spice note that becomes more prominent as it dries.

While it wasn’t the best burning month, it was definitely a great October otherwise. I may not have gotten through my entire burn list but I still enjoyed a plethora of pumpkin fragrances. I’m looking forward to relaxing a bit more as it gets cooler in November and digging in to some of my transitional scents soon!

September seriously flew by! We had visitors for a good portion of the month and went crazy finalizing wedding details. Between all of the stress I was still able to get through my entire burn list though! This month, I burned 5 candles and 11 wax melts.

September 2017 Candle Empties

Leaves (3-wick) A classic cider scent we all know and love. This year’s version burned beautifully until there was 1/3 left and then it went on the melter. At first this gave me a migraine with it’s strength but after a while the intensity faded out. Not one you’d ever need to stock up on because it returns every year without fail.
Leaves (1-wick, x2) The tester candles can really be hit or miss and in this fragrance it was a miss. They were practically unscented even when put on the melter.
Cider Lane (3-wick) A beautiful caramel apple blend that is one of my absolute favorites. Unfortunatley, the 2017 version was lighter than the past and got a funky smell when burning. When put on the melter it lasted for a couple more days and was a bit stronger.
Warm Apple Pie (1-wick) Notoriously a light scent that didn’t let me down with it’s reputation. Around the half-way point it threw around a 2 which was it’s strongest point. Great scent, would never repurchase.

September 2017 Wax Empties

Apple Butter On cold this was extremely disappointing because it smelled like an apple chap stick. When melting though it transformed and a luxurious creamy note came out making it quite enjoyable. Still not something I’d buy again though as there are other scents I like more.
Welcome – Have you ever made play-doh out of Kool Aid? Because that’s what this smells like when melting; a fruit punch DIY play-doh that’s heavy on the apple. Not what I want to be smelling at all.
Honey Crisp Cider (x2) A straight up dupe for Leaves with a hint more woodiness. A great melt to have on hand to amp up the candle!
Harvest Moon (x2) If Leaves and Cider Lane were mixed together this would be what it smelled like. When melting it was definitely heavier on the CL nuances and I wasn’t upset about it at all. Go hoard this!
Cider House Donuts – A cinnamon sugared donut scent with some apple cider spices mixed in. It was definitely on the lighter side being a year old but still delicious while it lasted.
Apple Cider Donut – Compared to the Scentsationals version, this smelled much more realistic but was heavier on the cinnamon. After the scent was gone, you could still get whiffs of bakery cinnamon for a few more hours.
Caramel Applewood – Goose Creek’s version of Cider Lane that was very nice to melt alongside the candle. I probably won’t pick up anymore of these in the future though because I’m not a fan of the soft wax formula.
Apple S’mores – This is Scenty’s dupe for Radiant Red Maple that you’ve heard me talk about non-stop this month. Two cubes last 2-3 days and I am so happy I stocked up before they discontinued this scent!
Warm Apple Pie – An absolutely divine pie fragrance that is heavier on the crust note than the filling which I am totally okay with! I will buy this as long as Wal-Mart carried it.

September 2017 Fragrance Empties

Lakeside Sunrise (wallflower) My fiancé is obsessed with this fragrance but I’ve never been able to smell it. However, this wallflower really surprised me. It was fairly strong and I got whiffs of it all month long!
Leaves (wallflower) For a scent that is know to be extremely strong and induce migraines, the wallflower is so light it’s practicallyundetectable. It’s really unfortunate and I hope BBW eventually works on the formula in this form.
Cider Lane (wallflower) This form of Cider Lane was INCREDIBLE! The apple note wasn’t very prominent, but the unique caramel and vanilla blend was strong. If you’ve ever been to Mystic Village in CT this is exactly what the general store smells like. Highly recommend and I have stocked up like a mad woman!
Leaves (hand soap) Let’s be real here, this soap smells nothing like the iconic Leaves candle. That is until you are actually washing your hands. It’s odd that the scent activates at a certain point and I’m assuming that’s why it wasn’t brought back again this year.

The fall months are more about enjoyment rather than quantity when it comes to candles for me. I have an internal battle of wanting to downsize my stash but don’t want to burn through my favorite scents too fast! However, if I thought September went by fast, October is definitely going to go by in the blink of an eye with all of our upcoming plans. Stay tuned for more details!

August has come and gone in the blink of an eye! I didn’t get to burn all the candles I had hoped to this month (mainly because Yankee’s take forever to get through) but am happy with what I did melt. This August I burned a total of 5 candles and 8 wax melts.

Berry Waffle Cone (3-wick) The best way to describe this delicious scent is by comparing it to a berry scone. It’s absolutely divine and I really hope you were able to get your hands on it! It threw around a 7 in my high-ceiling kitchen and lasted for almost a week on the candle melter.
Funnel Cake (1-wick) This scent smelled exactly like a greasy, buttery pastry with a hint of powdered sugar. Burning it was unscented but threw around a 6 on the candle melter. I’m assuming that’s why BBW only made this into a wallflower last year?
Pumpkin Banana Muffin (3-wick) Don’t let the title fool you, there is no pumpkin in this candle. This is actually a dupe for Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding from 2013. In this updated version there is definitely equal parts banana and walnut which for some reason made the fragrance smell like burnt bread at times. Unfortunately the candle only threw around a 5 and didn’t improve on the wax melter.
Summer Boardwalk (3-wick) – This was the weakest version of SB I’ve ever had. Most people get migraines from it’s strength and I could hardly smell it until putting it on the candle melter. Still a favorite fragrance of mine but the 2016 summer edition was a dud.
Sparkling Pear Riesling (1-wick) If you are a fan of Champagne Toast, this is essentially the fall version of it! Take out the citrus and replace it with pear and this is what you get. It’s a beautiful scent that BBW should’ve brought back. Also, this small jar was SO strong!

August 2017 Wax Empties

Sweet Plum Pastry – There are people who go crazy over this Scentsy fragrance and I’m not one of them. I don’t really get any bakery or sweet notes, just a dark berry and cinnamon. Maybe I got a dud? Either way I didn’t particularly enjoy this and am not too upset that it’s no longer available.
Corpsman (x2) If you follow me on Instagram, you know that this is now my all-time favorite fragrance! After the first 5 minutes of melting it for the first time, I immediately went and ordered several backups. This truly smells like graham crackers, buttery pie crust, and slightly savory zucchini bread mixed together. I never want to be without this!
Sweet Banana Bread – Now this was an amazing banana fragrance! There seemed to be more of a caramel note than banana but I didn’t mind at all. I might pick up another melt in this if I place another Goose Creek order again.
Banner – On cold I thought this was just a dupe for Summer Boardwalk, but it transformed when melting. The caramel note overpowers everything else and I really wasn’t a fan.
At the Fair – This is 100% a dupe for Summer Boardwalk, but better. The apple fritter note comes out so much more than the caramel corn in this version and I am obsessed with it. Why didn’t Wal-Mart release this again?! Thank goodness I still have a few stashed away.
Whipped Vanilla Pear – A pretty light pear fragrance from Scentsy with perfumey vanilla mixed in. Wasn’t the biggest fan and wouldn’t recommend.
Casting Spells – Another scent that smells completely different when melting. On cold it’s an interesting pear blend but smells like sweet potatoes warm. It’s very odd and I wasn’t impressed.

August 2017 Fragrance Empties

Pineapple Colada (hand soap) If you’re looking for a straight up pineapple soap scent, look no further. It was a nice summer fragrance that was very potent but unfortunately I’m just not that into pineapple scents.
Crisp Morning Air (hand soap) This may be one of my favorite fall soap scents ever! Think of walking around on a crisp fall day in an apple orchard and this is what you get; it’s fresh and slightly fruity. Hands down would repurchase if I didn’t already have back-ups!
Sea Island Cotton (body wash) This form of my favorite soap scent was just as amazing and lingered. I need to forever have back-ups of this fresh fragrance!
Summer Marshmallow (body cream) Even though this body cream from last summer has lost some of it’s peanut butter sugar vibes over time, it’s still one of my favorite body care scents ever! It’s a beautiful salty & sweet blend that I went through in 3 short weeks! Would forever repurchase and luckily have a decent stash still.
Crisp Morning Air (hand cream) I’m so sad to have finished this as it’s an incredibly unique fresh apple scent that BBW didn’t bring back in this form for this year.
Eucalyptus Spearmint (wallflower, x2) These wallflowers were really strong for the first few days and then pretty much non-existent as the oil quickly discolored. While I could smell them I wasn’t really a fan and wouldn’t recommend.
Summer Boardwalk (wallflower) A strong wallflower for a couple weeks but not too overpowering. After a while though the oil darkened, stopped evaporating, and started to smell like Pumpkin Caramel Latte.

My home definitely smelled wonderful this month and there were even several times I was complimented when people immediately came through my door. My absolute favorites of the month were Berry Waffle Cone and Corpsman! I seriously could’ve melted just those 2 fragrances throughout the month but didn’t want to totally deplete my stash. While I’m sad the month went by so quick, I’m so happy for fall scents to finally fill my space again in September!

Wow, July went by in a blur! Between finalizing wedding details and starting a new freelance gig, I don’t know where the rest of my time went. Even though it was another busy month for me, I managed to get through a good portion of my stash! I burned through 6 candles and 10 wax melts in July!

July 2017 Candle Empties

Salted Oak Bonfire (3-wick) On cold, I was a little weary of this scent because it had a slight perfume note reminding me of body care. When burning it totally transformed though and was very reminiscent of the beloved Summer Bonfire from 2015. It performed beautifully until there was only 1/4 left and then went to the melter. Throw was almost a 9 and it traveled throughout the majority of the house!
Watermelon Lemonade (1-wick) This little “Try Me” candle was horrible when burning. Between the tunneling and throw that reminded me of a Yankee, I ended up putting it on the melter. However, once transferred to the melter it threw really well for a couple days!
Sunlit Garden (3-wick) A lighter floral note that reminded me of early summer mornings from my childhood! While this candle brought on the nostalgia, it only threw around a 5 and didn’t travel. When put on the melter it sadly didn’t perform any better.
Tomato Vine (3-wick) This was another nostalgia candle for me and I surprisingly love fresh garden scents like this. It smelled of garden greens and fresh tomatoes still on the vine! It threw around a 6 but was only detectable within the same room it was burning in. Unfortunately this was another candle that barely gave off any fragrance when put on the melter.
Sea Grass (3-wick) I am SO happy BBW brought back their Snap Peas scent and renamed it! It’s such a beautiful blend of fresh but sweet greens with a clean base note. This threw around an 8 but didn’t travel very far. I have a few more back-ups that I will definitely cherish.
Autumn Sunshine (1-wick) To be honest, I don’t even bother burning these little guys anymore and just put them straight on the melter. This smelled like a slightly citrus woodsy fragrance – it really was more of a cologne scent for me. I definitely enjoyed it though within my small bathroom!
Olive Oil & Thyme (1-wick, DNF)  This was a really unique scent that I was excited to try out. Unfortunately, like most Yankee’s this barely threw, if at all. It also burned very odd making the wax looked like brains which kind of grossed me out. I ended up donating it to my BFF who I hope will enjoy it more than me!

July 2017 Wax Empties

Bonfire Beach – For anyone who tried BBW’s Summer Bonfire candle a couple years back and misses it, this wax melt from Scentsy is almost an exact dupe! It essentially smells like marshmallow fireside with sea salt air and citrus mixed in. It’s beyond lovely and I always want to have more bars stocked up at all times!
Watermelon Buttercream (DNF) On cold, this smelled like watermelon chapstick which didn’t impress me. However, when melting it transformed into a delicious watermelon frosting that fragranced the entire house. Unforutnatley there was a black residue within this formula ruining my melting dishes so I didn’t even use the last 2 cubes.
Suntan – This scent smells like a blend of citrus and coconut that is a dupe for legitimate sunscreen that you’d use at the beach. It was pretty strong but I’m not crazy about my entire house smelling like this (even though it brings back memories).
Cane Sugar Root Beer (DNF) I had high hopes for this melt but the issue was it smelled like root beer. I never thought I’d have an issue with this scent until my bedroom smelled like a mix of medicine and soda. I tried remedying it with a combination of that and Vanilla Cookie Crunch, but then it just smelled burnt. Definitely would not recommend or every repurchase anything from this company again.
Blue Raspberry Ice – A true to life popsicle scent that is perfect for the middle of summer! As great of a scent as it is, this Scentsy bar lasted less than 1 day each time which was disappointing.
Salted Pistachio Sorbet – This was a beautiful creamy pistachio fragrance! Originally I thought the saltiness would make this a great summer fragrance but I think this might be better suited for the Winter months.
Pistachio Ice Cream – Another creamy pistachio fragrance that smelled exactly like Better Homes & Gardens version when melting. I really did enjoy this too but it just didn’t seem to be the right season for it.
Basil (x2) – A true to life basil scent that smells just like it’s title. This was nice melting it alongside the garden themed candles but had to be mixed with Fresh Baked Bread to lessen the sharp herbal note. Unfortunately, Kringle seemed to have retired this fragrance.
Fresh Baked Bread – This is an amazing buttery bread scent but is odd to smell all by itself in your home. Like I previously mentioned, I mixed this with Basil and got a really nice herbal bread fragrance but I’m not sure I’ll pick it up again.

July 2017 Fragrance Empties

Boardwalk Vanilla Cone (hand soap) My absolute favorite soap for the summer! It truly smells like vanilla ice cream packed inside a waffle cone (trust me, I worked in an ice cream shop for 4 years). This year’s version unfortunately was not as strong as years past and didn’t linger at all.
Watermelon Lemonade (hand soap) We all know what this basic scent that BBW brings back in every form smells like. While this fragrance doesn’t really impress me anymore the soaps scent did linger for a little while which I appreciated.
Pumpkin Berry Crumble (hand soap) This may have been my favorite soap of the month! If you smelled BBW’s recent Berry Waffle Cone candle, this smells almost just like it. There’s no pumpkin in here (naturally) but it is a wonderful berry bakery scent that lingered for a long time after using.
Watermelon Lemonade (body cream) I’m shocked that BBW named this Watermelon Lemonade because it does not smell like their traditional WL scent. It’s definitely more of a candied lemon with little to no watermelon. It was a decent body cream but I wouldn’t stock up or repurchase.
Pomegranate Lemonade (wallflower) A sweet yet tart fragrance that was surprisingly stronger than last month’s wallflower, but not by much. I’m happy to have gone through what I have of this fragrance in my collection and wouldn’t repurchase.
Champagne Toast (wallflower) This sweet citrus scent was strong when first plugged in but quickly faded out within a couple days. For such an amazing scent this was such a letdown and I just hope my other backups perform better.
Funnel Cake (wallflower) One of the strongest wallflowers I’ve had in a while! In some areas of my home it smelled funky which was odd and I had to play around with positions. Once I found the “right spot” it threw like a champ until the very last drop of oil.

While I focused on fresher garden fragrances this past July, I did also manage to fit in some sweet scents as well! My favorite candle of the month was definitely Salted Oak Bonfire and my favorite wax melt was Bonfire Beach. If I could only burn those 2 fragrances each summer I absolutely would! It truly was a great month of melting but I’m beyond excited for what I’m planning to melt in August!

This January proved to be an interesting start to 2017. We had tons of warm days, our move was pushed farther into the year, and I ended up getting pretty sick. I’m also officially working from home again so with all of this in mind you’d think I would be burning through tons of my stash, right? Wrong. I don’t know how it happened but I somehow cut down my melting without trying or wanting to. All together this January, I burned 7 candles and 8 wax melts.

January 2017 Candle Empties

Champagne Toast (1-wick) – I always enjoy kicking off the new year with this refreshing scent, but the mini candle was very light in comparison to the large 3-wick. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it and will always have back-ups in my collection.
Alpine Chalet (1-wick) – Imagine sitting my the fire bundled in a cozy wool blanket with a cup of chai tea and then taking in a big whiff of your surroundings. That is what this candle smells like on cold. It’s very warm and comforting, however didn’t throw at all when burning OR on the candle melter. If you see this at your local Yankee Candle outlet, don’t bother picking it up.
Sparkling Amber (3-wick) – This is a straight up amber candle and was so strong I had an allergic reaction. Around the half-way point it got puny wicks and I could only stand to put it on the warmer once after that. Not a disappointment, just not my type of fragrance.
Tiramisu Macaron (3-wick) – Don’t let this candle fool you, there is no macaron notes detectable. It is however a pretty realistic tiramisu fragrance and threw around an 8. The downfall is that it burns so quickly that you only get about 3-4 short burn before it hits the bottom. Definitely not worth the higher Woodwick prices.
Ski Lodge (3-wick) – To me, this is the ultimate after-Christmas winter fragrance. It is so woodsy yet sweet and exactly what I imagine a ski lodge to smell like. I did notice that I’m only a major fan when there is snow outside – when it was sunny or just raining I didn’t care for it. It throws at an amazing 10 and I luckily still have a few back ups for snowy days to come!
Whiskers on Kittens (1-wick) – This is a clean winter fragrance with notes of sandalwood and vanilla. It is definitely more fresh than sweet and perfect this time of year. It only threw around a 4 in my small kitchen but when I put it on the melter it was fairly strong. If YC ever re-released this I would probably pick it up again.
Vanilla Chai (1-wick) – For some reason I associate chai with this time of year so this fragrance was perfect. It had a base of vanilla, mid-notes of a traditional chai tea, and a top note of cinnamon. On cold the cinnamon was a bit too much which worried me but that thankfully didn’t come through when burning. It only threw around a 4 unfortunately but got a bit stronger again on the melter. While I enjoyed this, I probably wouldn’t need to have it in my collection again.

January 2017 Wax Empties

Pink Currant & Birchwood – I’m not an expert on woodsy fragrance, but this smelled like BBW’s Winter to me with a hint of sweetness. It definitely was a nice way to transition out of the Christmas scents. Nothing spectacular and I wouldn’t repurchase.
Cashmere Cream – This was a cozy & clean scent with notes of sandalwood and amber. It didn’t really throw well and left a dark residue on my melters causing the wax to smoke. Because of this hazard I didn’t finish a full clamshell and returned my backup.
Cozy Chai – An amazingly strong and authentic chai scent that threw at a perfect 10. It was a bit cloying and I ended up mixing it with Vanilla Cookie Crunch to tone it down – highly recommend this combination! I do already have a backup but don’t plan on stocking up anymore.
Sunday Morning Pancakes – This is an absolute delicious maple pancake scent with a hint of saltiness. Every year we burn this in some form on weekend mornings in January only. The wax melt form was great but only lasted about 4-5 hours (I’m assuming because it was old). If I could find this again in stores I would pick it up in a heartbeat.
Bundled in Blankets – Imagine taking out the coziest blankets you own from your cedar closet and combining that with a nice after shave or cologne. That’s what this scent combination smells like and it was great! I melted this mainly in my bedroom and just 2 cubes lasted 2+ days. While I enjoyed this, it’s another I probably wouldn’t get again based on my preferences.
Mochadoodle – For any other Scentsy fans out there, you know this scent is hyped up and a staple. I really don’t get it though. To me, this doesn’t smell like chocolate or coffee. More like a stale piece of sweet candy. Is this supposed to be a mixing fragrance? I ended up combining this with Vanilla Cookie Crunch as well which made it somewhat enjoyable. Definitely wouldn’t repurchase!
Vanilla Cookie Crunch – We all know about this delicious fragrance! I finished up another value pack this month and immediately purchased another.
Peanut Butter Sugar – This is the perfect combination of sweet & salty that I never want to be without!

January 2017 Fragrance Empties

Winter (wallflowers) – It’s no secret that the quality of wallflowers has been rapidly declining over the past couple of years. However, the 2 Winter wallflowers I plugged in performed great. I actually smelled the fragrance all month and it evaporated to the very bottom.
Winter (hand soap) – I’ve always loved this scent in the past as a hand soap, however this year it wasn’t very strong so I’m glad I didn’t stock up.
Golden Autumn Day (hand cream) – This is a refreshing fragrance with undertones of apple that I’ve been using since September. The scent is long-lasting once applied and the product works great. Super happy to have found more of this at SAS.

For the most part, I did enjoy what I melted this month and am glad to have made a dent in the fresher scents in my collection. While I wish I had burned more, I did get through everything on my burn list except for one small candle that I’ll be finishing next month. Speaking of February, I’m excited to get into some more sweet bakery scents again!

November was a tough month for me; a lot of obstacles were thrown my way all the while I was constantly on the go. I’m one of those people that needs their relaxing alone time and I didn’t get much of that this month. It was definitely a slower burning month but I did get through 6 candles and 6 wax melts!

November 2016 Candle Empties

Smoked Caramel (1-wick) – The name of this candle describes this fragrance best – you get an equally strong caramel and smoky scent. It’s a really interesting combination from Target that’s perfect for the Fall. However, this only threw around a 2 even when put on the melter and wouldn’t pool out even when tin foiled. If it had a better performance I definitely would’ve picked up another.
Sweater Weather (1-wick) – Can you believe I’ve NEVER burned this scent before?! I don’t know why I waited so long to experience this candle. On cold it has more of a cologne note but when melting a background apple comes out. Next Fall I’ll definitely be picking up my first 3-wick!
Autumn Leaves (1-wick) – Wow, this was the strongest Yankee Candle I’ve ever burned. Within minutes of lighting this it filled my entire open concept living room. Aside from the great burn, the scent was a fresh Fall fragrance with undertones of apple and cinnamon. Absolutely amazing and I will repurchase again next year!
Cranberry Chutney (1-wick) – This is a nice sweet cranberry scent but only threw around a 3 in my small kitchen. It was nice but way too light (especially for the amount of oils that were visible) for me to ever repurchase.
Autumn Air (1-wick) – I’m still struggling to determine if this is a dupe for BBW’s Marshmallow Fireside or Radiant Red Maple. It definitely leans more towards MF but has a slight apple undertone. Yet this was another Yankee that didn’t throw well. I probably won’t waste my money again and will just stick to the BBW classics.
Chestnut & Clove (3-wick) – This is an absolutely amazing transition fragrance from Fall to Winter. It has a top note of clove, mid-note of chestnuts, and an undertone of vanilla. I usually burn this the week leading up to Thanksgiving and it didn’t disappoint this year. My only issue was that the wicks were off center making it difficult to pool out. Either way this is a hoard worthy one for me!

November 2016 Wax Empties

Brandied Pumpkin – This was a very nice pumpkin fragrance but didn’t have much of a brandy note. I enjoyed it while it lasted but wouldn’t repurchase, like most Kringle products.
Autumn Winds – I think this is pretty comparable to BBW Ski Lodge if not an exact dupe. It was a great bedroom scent but again I wouldn’t repurchase.
Perfect Pumpkin Ale – I enjoyed this much more than I expected to! It definitely had pumpkin (which is always a nice surprise) and you could really smell that ale note. If this comes out again next year I’ll definitely pick it up again – I’m trying to downsize my collection a bit before stocking up on more.
Caramel Pumpkin Seeds – This was a beautiful caramel pumpkin combination on cold sniff but it didn’t translate the same when warm. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping to and would hold off on buying again.
Cranberry Cookie Crumble – This was my favorite wax melt of the month and I went through 2 clam shells! There is a tart cranberry top note mixed with a sweet cookie fragrance. It really is wonderful and I have already bought back ups!

November 2016 Fragrance Empties

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (wallflower) – Oh my gosh, I think this was my favorite form of this fragrance yet. You don’t get as much “cereal” scent like from the candle making it a delicious sweet fragrance. I hope they release this again next year!
Chestnut & Clove (wallflower) – In wallflower form, the vanilla comes out so much more than the candle. I still enjoy it just as much but it does tend to start having a Marshmallow Fireside feel to it. I wish this was released in this form again because I don’t have anymore in my collection!
Pumpkin Cranberry Cider (hand sanitizer) – Like most BBW products, there is no pumpkin in this. It does have a strong tart cranberry scent and an undertone of cider. It was nice but not my favorite.
Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (soap) – Last year I was dying to get my hands on this soap after using it at my mom’s house. However it did not smell like PPW at all – I wouldn’t be surprised if the wrong label was thrown onto this bottle.
Marshmallow Mittens (hand sanitizer) – This is essentially Marshmallow Fireside in sanitizer form and I’m so sad that they didn’t come out with this again!

While it was a slower month for melting I had some pleasant surprises like Autumn Leaves from Yankee Candle and Cranberry Cookie Crumble from Better Homes and Garden. I’m excited for some sweeter scents to get in the holiday spirit in December, I think my first pick will be Marshmallow Fireside – it’s usually the candle I melt while I decorate my Christmas tree!

October, the month of pumpkin everything. It was definitely another busy month for me; between seeing Harry Potter in theaters, visiting the Jack-O-Lantern Spectactular, trying on wedding dresses, carving pumpkins, and doing other Halloween activities I still had a mountain of work to catch up on too. Through all of that I managed to burn 9 candles and 8 wax melts.

October 2016 Candle Empties

Forbidden Apple (1-wick) – This medium jar from Yankee was a disappointment; it only threw at about a 2 and I really didn’t like the lack of visibility due to the black jar. It’s a basic apple scent and I will not repurchase if it sticks around next year.
Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake (3-wick) – Don’t be fooled, this fragrance does not have any pumpkin notes in it. It is a wonderful spiced cheesecake scent perfect for October. However, half-way through it started smelly really funky and I couldn’t stomach it any longer.
Pumpkin Pie (3-wick & 1-wick) – I burned through 2 large & 1 small jars of this fragrance and it was wonderful while it lasted. I say that because I had to put them all on candle warmers due to poor performance. This is truly the ultimate pumpkin fragrance that I hope always returns.
Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (3-wick) – This scent was definitely altered from past years but I really loved it! It threw great and burned almost the entire way without issues. Not something to stock up on because BBW will always bring this back.
Pumpkin Spice (3-wick) – A fragrance that is almost identical to Pumpkin Pie but lacking the buttery crust note. It only threw at about a 3 and was completely unmemorable.
Pumpkin Cupcake (3-wick) – What a wonderfully spicy vanilla scent that will forever be perfect for this month. It threw great and was strong but eventually had to be put on the warmer.
Pumpkin Buttercream (3-wick) – I absolutely adore this fragrance on cold sniff – it is pretty comparable to Pumpkin Cupcake. However, it barely threw in my small kitchen which was a disappointment.

October 2016 Wax Empties

Caramel Butter – Goose Creek either does scents really good or really bad and this was one of the bad ones. This smelled like burnt caramel and was just repulsive. I was able to slightly save it by mixing it with Vanilla Cookie Crunch but would never re-purchase or recommend.
Cider Mill – On cold sniff, this fragrance didn’t really impress me but it totally transformed while melting. It was pretty comparable to BBW Pumpkin Apple which is a wonderful mixture of all the best Fall scents. This was nice to have in the background but didn’t last very long – I probably wouldn’t repurchase this one either.
Pumpkin Spice Muffin – This truly did smell like a pumpkin muffin on cold sniff, however it lost it’s bakery note while melting. It was still nice but nothing outstanding to spend money on again in the future.
A Thankful Harvest – A 2015 exclusive scent that was amazing! It was a creamy pumpkin apple fragrance that was amped up in comparison to other fragranced like Cider Mill. I really enjoyed this and if it ever came back out I’d stock up on a few.
Cider House Donuts – I talked more about this amazing fragrance last month and couldn’t help melting another clamshell of it before the season was over! I’ll repurchase as long as it’s available.
Pumpkin Cinnamon Ice Cream – While you would expect this to be a creamy fragrance it just smelled like straight up cinnamon. Another disappointment from Goose Creek.
Pumpkin Roll – This was a comparable scent to BBW Pumpkin Cupcake and really amped up that candle. The major difference is that this wax melt actually has a pumpkin note in it. I’ll probably repurchase this fragrance again next year but it’s still not hoard worthy.
Carrot Cake – Last but not least this was my favorite wax melt of the month – a scent that Goose Creek did really great! This smells EXACTLY like a freshly baked carrot cake with a hint of cream cheese frosting. Amazing and 100% stocking up!

October 2016 Fragrance Empties

Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake (wallflower) – Finally a wallflower that released fragrance for an entire  month – too bad it smelled nothing like the candle. This smelled almost like chocolate which is not what I wanted during October.
Pumpkin Pie (wallflower) – Another wallflower that luckily released fragrance all month long and this was the pumpkin pie scent I know and love. Forever a repurchase.
Pumpkin Cupcake (hand soap) – This is one of my favorite fall soaps and smells just like the candle. I will probably repurchase as long as BBW offers it.
Pumpkin Apple Cider (body cream) – I am not a fan of apple body care scents but this was delicious. It was really a cider fragrance that I couldn’t get enough of! If you can still find this in stores I’d pick it up on sale because BBW probably won’t release it again in the future.
Pumpkin Pie (hand sanitizer) – This form of the incredible Pumpkin Pie fragrance was definitely lacking. It smelled strongly of pumpkin but lacked the buttery crust note.

I’ve always looked forward to pumpkin fragrances every year but I think I’ve come to the realization that apple fragrances are much more enjoyable. There were definitely more scents that I didn’t enjoy in October than I did enjoy. I’ll have to keep that in mind for years to come and really narrow down my collection. Looking back on all my empties my absolute favorite was oddly Carrot Cake which although spicy, I associate with January. (It’s my fiancee’s favorite cake and I always make it for his birthday at the beginning of the year.) No matter, I’m looking forward to burning some more outdoorsy fragrances for this upcoming November!

I have been psyching myself up for Bath & Body Works semi-annual sale for the past month. I created a list of candles and wallflowers I was looking to haul and almost took the day off of work. You would think since BBW has this loyal of a fan-base that they’d offer the same products everywhere. Wrong. I have not found a single 75% off candle at the closest 7 stores in a 2-hour radius.

After speaking with some other girls in the New England area, it seems that RI & MA did not get any of the 75% off treasures the rest of the US received. This is SO disappointing. Can you imagine if I actually took the day off of work only to find that nothing special was being offered around me? I may not be the biggest fan of Yankee Candle’s products, but at least the store is fair and offers the same scents everywhere. It’s not like my stores even sold-out before I got there. They never received ANYTHING from the previous Fall or Winter lines. To everyone who’s been able to find last year’s awesome scents that most likely won’t be available ever again, I am so jealous!

BBW Spring 2016 SAS Haul & Rant

Okay, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, here are the only purchases I’ve made during this Spring SAS. Day 1 which was online only, I ordered 11 wallflowers and 1 candle. I was most excited about the Lavender Macaron scent coming out in wallflower form – so naturally I went a little crazy.

I did manage to find 75% off wallflowers in the scent Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake and stocked up. At the same time I luckily found one of the amazing fall body care fragrances from 2015 and picked up a couple shower gels. (Shown at top.) At another store, I wanted to reach $40 to use my coupon and the only notable items included in that purchase were 2 more candles and 2 more wallflowers.

BBW Spring 2016 SAS Haul & Rant

Even though I’m disappointed with this SAS, I have gotten a few good deals. I’m officially putting myself on a wax ban until Fall fragrances come out – I’ve got a lot to burn through in the next couple months! In the meantime, let’s hope BBW will step up their game for Winter SAS and stop re-packaging the same boring scents nobody cares for! 😉 Have you been one of the lucky ones to find some treasures during this SAS? Share your haul in the comments!
