August was a month of packing for us as we plan to move into our new house VERY soon! I was a little worried that I wouldn’t have too much time to focus on burning. However, I was pleasantly surprised with what I melted through!

A delectable fragrance that smelled identical to freshly baked muffins. It’s too bad this candle hardly threw at all, even when put on the melter 🙁

Berry Waffle Cone

Repurchase?
Yes
One of the best bakery fragrances I’ve ever smelled – thank goodness BBW brought this back for 2018. If it weren’t for wicks randomly extinguishing themselves, this would have been a 10 star candle all-around!

Paradise Spice

Yankee Candle, 1-wick
Scent

3
Repurchase?

In true Yankee fashion, this hardly threw and took too long to fully pool – so it lived the majority of its life in the melter. It was a beautiful cinnamon & banana blend though!

White Chocolate Apple

Yankee Candle, 1-wick

I’ve been burning through this candle for YEARS. Since its such a slow burner, I decided to just go ahead and put it in the melter where it lasted for weeks! It’s really comparable to BBW Summer Boardwalk which is why I wouldn’t bother repurchasing.

Summer Boardwalk

Summer Boardwalk is a classic transitional scent for me, but this version wasn’t the best performer.

August 2018 Wax Empties

Pumpkin Berry Tart

On cold, this smelled identical to a fresh berry pie! When melting though, you really only detected the berry note when you could smell it at all.

Corpsman

This still remains one of my favorite fragrances of all time! It’s truly a graham cracker scent that is the perfect blend of salty & sweet and really throws!

August 2018 Fragrance Empties

Pumpkin Cranberry Cider

Honestly, I’ve been working on this soap since LAST SEPTEMBER! The fragrance is straight up cranberry with an undertone of cider which really isn’t my preferred notes.

Fresh Rain & Spearmint

This was gifted to me on my wedding weekend last October and we’ve been slowly using it ever since. It’s a really nice fresh fragrance that lingered long after using it!

Wow, this was incredible. A beautiful berry & bakery blend that I couldn’t get enough of. Really wishing I had more!

This month I burned 5 Candles & 2 Wax Melts!

Even though I didn’t necessarily discover any new fragrances in August, this was still a great transitional month for me! What was your favorite candle of the month? Share in the comments below!

Don’t let this variety of pink packaging and floral scents fool you, we are indeed looking at my March burn list and not going back in time. For some reason, I prefer the sweet floral fragrances when it get’s closer to Spring. It just so happens that all the packaging blends together beautifully and will fit right in with my Easter décor! Without further ado, here is what I play on burning throughout the next month.

CANDLES

• Champagne Toast – “Glittering champagne, wild berries, tangerine zest”
• Lavender Macaron –
“Celebrate the city of love with a truly French treat that combines the scent of lavender blossoms with a patisserie cookie”
• Lavender Marshmallow –
“The merging of two unexpected flavors, Lavender and Marshmallow, make this mouthwatering blend a special treat”
• Pink Petal Tea Cake –
“Rose Petals, Fluffy Cake and Orange Essential Oil”
• Raspberry Peach Macaron –
“The ultimate French cookie is celebrated in a unique blend of ripe raspberries, juicy peach and almond cream”

WAX MELTS

• Pink Velvet – “This sweet and fun fragrance mingles sugared lemon, apple and pineapple into a sweet heart of tropical punch and red currant. Sugar cane and vanilla bean in the base deliver a captivating finish.”
• Umbridge –
“Tea & cakes, sugar dusted roses and cotton candy”

If the past month was any indication, I don’t think I’ll have any trouble getting through this entire burn list. I can’t believe I only have two wax melts in my entire collection that fit this sweet floral theme – expect to see multiples in my empties!

November is already upon is which means we are on the last leg of Autumn. I usually use this month as a transition into Winter and focus on scents that are reminiscent of cooler days spent outdoors. I begin moving away from pumpkin spice and dive more into the holiday spices. Without further ado, here are all of the different wax fragrance I plan on featuring in my home this month.

CANDLES

• Sweater Weather – “Fresh Sage, Juniper Berry, Aromatic Eucalyptus, Fresh Woods”
• Pumpkin Pecan Waffles – “Maple Syrup, Golden Waffles, Pumpkin Spice, Brown Sugar”
• Chestnut & Clove – “Warm Roasted Chestnuts, Fresh Ground Clove, Forest Pine Needles, Cedarwood”
• Rustic Harvest – “Creamy toffee, maple and raisins with subtle hints of rum”
• Creamy Nutmeg –Grated Nutmeg, Cinnamon Stick, Sugared Almonds, Creamy Vanilla”

WAX MELTS

• Autumn Leaves – “A vibrant medley of birch and maple leaves with pomegranate, juniper berry and orange blossom.”
• Hedwig – “Chai Tea, Creamy Cheesecake, and Clove”
• Praline Spice – “Cinnamon Bark & Vanilla Cream”
• Cranberry Oatmeal Cookie – “Sweet cranberry, cinnamon sugar, caramel swirl and buttered pecan into the heart of a sugar cookie.”
• Cranberry Cookie Crumble – “Ceamy oatmeal, fresh juicy red currant berries, butterscotch, farm-fresh milk notes, nutty almond and rich vanilla.”

Aside from the prominent juniper and cloves scents this month, I always associate cranberry with November because of Thanksgiving. I can’t believe the holidays are almost here – the wedding craziness certainly made this year fly by. I’m excited to get started though and am lighting Sweater Weather up right now!

August has come and gone in the blink of an eye! I didn’t get to burn all the candles I had hoped to this month (mainly because Yankee’s take forever to get through) but am happy with what I did melt. This August I burned a total of 5 candles and 8 wax melts.

Berry Waffle Cone (3-wick) The best way to describe this delicious scent is by comparing it to a berry scone. It’s absolutely divine and I really hope you were able to get your hands on it! It threw around a 7 in my high-ceiling kitchen and lasted for almost a week on the candle melter.
Funnel Cake (1-wick) This scent smelled exactly like a greasy, buttery pastry with a hint of powdered sugar. Burning it was unscented but threw around a 6 on the candle melter. I’m assuming that’s why BBW only made this into a wallflower last year?
Pumpkin Banana Muffin (3-wick) Don’t let the title fool you, there is no pumpkin in this candle. This is actually a dupe for Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding from 2013. In this updated version there is definitely equal parts banana and walnut which for some reason made the fragrance smell like burnt bread at times. Unfortunately the candle only threw around a 5 and didn’t improve on the wax melter.
Summer Boardwalk (3-wick) – This was the weakest version of SB I’ve ever had. Most people get migraines from it’s strength and I could hardly smell it until putting it on the candle melter. Still a favorite fragrance of mine but the 2016 summer edition was a dud.
Sparkling Pear Riesling (1-wick) If you are a fan of Champagne Toast, this is essentially the fall version of it! Take out the citrus and replace it with pear and this is what you get. It’s a beautiful scent that BBW should’ve brought back. Also, this small jar was SO strong!

August 2017 Wax Empties

Sweet Plum Pastry – There are people who go crazy over this Scentsy fragrance and I’m not one of them. I don’t really get any bakery or sweet notes, just a dark berry and cinnamon. Maybe I got a dud? Either way I didn’t particularly enjoy this and am not too upset that it’s no longer available.
Corpsman (x2) If you follow me on Instagram, you know that this is now my all-time favorite fragrance! After the first 5 minutes of melting it for the first time, I immediately went and ordered several backups. This truly smells like graham crackers, buttery pie crust, and slightly savory zucchini bread mixed together. I never want to be without this!
Sweet Banana Bread – Now this was an amazing banana fragrance! There seemed to be more of a caramel note than banana but I didn’t mind at all. I might pick up another melt in this if I place another Goose Creek order again.
Banner – On cold I thought this was just a dupe for Summer Boardwalk, but it transformed when melting. The caramel note overpowers everything else and I really wasn’t a fan.
At the Fair – This is 100% a dupe for Summer Boardwalk, but better. The apple fritter note comes out so much more than the caramel corn in this version and I am obsessed with it. Why didn’t Wal-Mart release this again?! Thank goodness I still have a few stashed away.
Whipped Vanilla Pear – A pretty light pear fragrance from Scentsy with perfumey vanilla mixed in. Wasn’t the biggest fan and wouldn’t recommend.
Casting Spells – Another scent that smells completely different when melting. On cold it’s an interesting pear blend but smells like sweet potatoes warm. It’s very odd and I wasn’t impressed.

August 2017 Fragrance Empties

Pineapple Colada (hand soap) If you’re looking for a straight up pineapple soap scent, look no further. It was a nice summer fragrance that was very potent but unfortunately I’m just not that into pineapple scents.
Crisp Morning Air (hand soap) This may be one of my favorite fall soap scents ever! Think of walking around on a crisp fall day in an apple orchard and this is what you get; it’s fresh and slightly fruity. Hands down would repurchase if I didn’t already have back-ups!
Sea Island Cotton (body wash) This form of my favorite soap scent was just as amazing and lingered. I need to forever have back-ups of this fresh fragrance!
Summer Marshmallow (body cream) Even though this body cream from last summer has lost some of it’s peanut butter sugar vibes over time, it’s still one of my favorite body care scents ever! It’s a beautiful salty & sweet blend that I went through in 3 short weeks! Would forever repurchase and luckily have a decent stash still.
Crisp Morning Air (hand cream) I’m so sad to have finished this as it’s an incredibly unique fresh apple scent that BBW didn’t bring back in this form for this year.
Eucalyptus Spearmint (wallflower, x2) These wallflowers were really strong for the first few days and then pretty much non-existent as the oil quickly discolored. While I could smell them I wasn’t really a fan and wouldn’t recommend.
Summer Boardwalk (wallflower) A strong wallflower for a couple weeks but not too overpowering. After a while though the oil darkened, stopped evaporating, and started to smell like Pumpkin Caramel Latte.

My home definitely smelled wonderful this month and there were even several times I was complimented when people immediately came through my door. My absolute favorites of the month were Berry Waffle Cone and Corpsman! I seriously could’ve melted just those 2 fragrances throughout the month but didn’t want to totally deplete my stash. While I’m sad the month went by so quick, I’m so happy for fall scents to finally fill my space again in September!

August is here which means it’s a transition month for me! The majority of my candle/wax collection is dedicated to warmer bakery fragrances that I typically burn from August-February. I can’t believe I’m already pulling out these scents but am so excited! This month I’m going to be focusing on warmer fruity combinations that still give off a summer vibe.

CANDLES

• Berry Waffle Cone – “Sweet summer berries, golden waffle cone, creamy vanilla”
• Funnel Cake – “Golden swirls of buttery pastry dusted with white powdered sugar”
• Pumpkin Banana Muffin – “Caramelized banana, pumpkin puree, walnut, cinnamon sugar”
• Summer Boardwalk – “Caramel-glazed popcorn, warm taffy-apples and salted, sweet cream”
• White Chocolate Apple – “A juicy, just-picked apple with a crisp coating of luscious white chocolate”
• Sparkling Pear Riesling – “California pears, riesling grapes, honeyed oak”

WAX MELTS

• Corpsman – “Graham crackers, pie crust and creamy zucchini bread”
• Sweet Plum Pastry – “Black plum and toasted coconut garnish a marshmallow cloud”
• Sweet Banana Bread – “Bananas, sugared pralines and buttered pecans folds into a sweet mix of whipped honey, caramel swirl, cinnamon and brown sugar.”
• At The Fair – Spiced caramel corn mixed with cider apple fritters
• Banner – “Warm buttery cornbread topped with creamy mac apple ice cream and brown sugar”
• Casting Spells – “A bewitching blend of apple drizzle, roasted pears and cinnamon bark”
• Whipped Vanilla Pear – “A luxuriant caramel glaze tops baked pear and whipped vanilla”

It’s pretty obvious that these are the types of fragrances that I truly enjoy and stock up on; I have corresponding melts that pair with each candle! Between the berry, banana, and fair food scents I know this is going to be a great month. If I have additional time I’ll also be burning Paradise Spice from YC too. I have no doubt that I’ll get through this list and am off to go light up my first candle pick!

March flew by! We didn’t end up moving yet again and did quite a bit of traveling instead. Because of this, I was able to melt through my entire burn list with a few extras too. During this floral transition month, I burned 6 candles and 9 wax melts.

March 2017 Candle Empties

Sugar Flower (1-wick) – Imagine a light vanilla cake with fondant frosting, this candle smells exactly like that with slight undertones of lavender. It was very light and threw around a 2 in my small kitchen. Even when I finished it off on the candle warmer did it only throw around a 4. At this point, I’m done purchasing Pure Radiance candles and only have 1 left in my collection to finish up.
Lavender Macaron (3-wick) – This was a beautiful blend of lavender, bakery, and black currant. When burning, it only threw around a 6 and ended up having PWS. On the candle warmer it threw around an 8. This remains one of my favorite blends BBW ever released and I’m happy to have a few more back-ups!
Champagne Toast (3-wick) – A candle we all know and love, this smells like sweet effervescent tangerines. One of the best burning candles I’ve had from BBW in a while with high flames, a gorgeous wax pool, and a 9 throw. Hoping my other back-ups from this past year will perform just as well!
Mocha Latte Swirl (3-wick) – If you’re looking for a creamy, sweet, coffee scent – this is the one for you! There is a top note of coffee, mid-notes of vanilla and caramel, and a bottom note of cocoa. It threw around an 8 and I wish they’d bring this back!
Tea & Lemon (3-wick) – This fragrance was a wonderful combination of slightly sweetened tea and squeezed lemon. It was a great transition candle that performed extremely well and threw around an 8. I would hands down buy this again if they ever brought it back.
Jelly Beans (1-wick) – A wonderful grape scent with undertones of berry and lemon that unfortunately only threw around a 4. I got this back in 2014 on a super sale and while I enjoyed the actual fragrance, I wouldn’t pick it up again based on the performance.

March 2017 Wax Empties

Rose Soda (x2) – If you are a floral person, you’d probably love this fragrance. It was a generic rose scent that lacked any fizzy soda note like the name suggests. I mixed it with Vanilla Cookie Crunch and it was pretty much undetectable at that point. Ultimately this was a disappointment.
Pink Tulips – Oh my gosh, I really wish Scentsy still sold this fragrance! This past month I tried out florals for the first time and this was hands down my favorite. This was floral and fruity combined which was absolutely lovely throughout my home! If they ever bring this back I will hoard it.
Umbridge – On cold this smells like a rose tea but when warming you get the slightest hint of a salty bakery treat, it was amazing! If I ever want a rose fragrance again in the future, this will be my go-to choice. (Plus it’s Harry Potter themed, what more could you want?)
Pink Velvet (x2) – A wonderful sugary scent with notes of bakery and citrus. A favorite melt of mine that I never want to be without!
Sipping Tea – This is very similar to BBW Tea & Lemon, but a little lighter on the lemon note and has a different type of tea base. Still lovely and very much enjoyable.
Jelly Beans (x2) – I really wanted to amp up the candle with the melt form of the fragrance, but this was too old and unscented. I actually threw out my second Jelly beans and don’t plan on buying anymore Yankee Candle wax melts.

March 2017 Fragrance Empties

Winter Rose (wallflower) – Just like the candle, this smells like a straight up rose scent. The fragrance didn’t travel far but did last until the oil evaporated half-way through the month.
Lavender Macaron (wallflower) – I didn’t have high hopes for this wallflower based on bad reviews. However I was able to smell it throughout the entire month in the close vicinity of the actual plugin.
Cotton Blossom (hand soap)
 – This was a repackage of Sea Island Cotton which is my favorite hand soap. It’s fresh, clean, and the scent lingers for hours. Hands down will always repurchase this fragrance no matter what it is called!
Lemon Buttercream (hand soap) – Last year, everyone was hyping this fragrance up so I purchased a few without actually using it. That was a mistake because this smells like a sweetened alcohol. There’s hardly any lemon fragrance and the astringent alcohol note lingers on your hands.
Merry Cookie (hand sanitizer) – I’ve been working on this little guy since December and the worst part, I wasn’t impressed by the scent. Sure, it’s a typical sweet and sugary fragrance. But mixed with the alcohol it just didn’t smell “right” and I wanted to wash my hands after using it.

While I enjoyed almost everything I melted this month, the outstanding favorite was Umbridge by Super Tarts. I’m happy to be moving on from florals this upcoming month and focusing on fresh citrus scents!

One of the latest trends in the world of wax is pistachio scents. It seems like every company is releasing their own version that smells almost identical to the other. I thought it would be nice to compare each one of them to figure out what the differences are, if any, and help you decide which to purchase. Without further ado, here are the 3 most popular pistachio scents in order of release.

Yankee Candle – Crunchy Pistachio Vanilla – This pistachio fragrance is definitely unlike the other two because it has more of a bakery note. It smells like an almond shortbread cookie with an undertone of pistachio. It’s a great scent but better suited for the winter holidays.

Wal-Mart – Salted Pistachio Sorbet – Now this is a pistachio fragrance! You immediately get a nutty pistachio note and then a base of sweet cream. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it smells like sorbet and actually think I’ll melt this in August as a transition into fall based on the slight saltiness.

Scentsy – Pistachio Ice Cream – Out of the 3 pistachio scents, this is the truest to it’s name. It has a perfect balance of a realistic ice cream and pistachio nut. It’s definitely close to the Wal-Mart version but has less of a salty note and more authentic creaminess. As someone who worked in an ice cream shop for years, I can attest that this will be a beautiful option for the middle of summer.

While all three pistachio fragrances seem almost identical when you smell them separately, they are very different when side-by-side. I think it’s great that each can identify with a different season if you’re a hardcore pistachio fan. If you’re not a seasonal burner, I’ll tell you that my favorite was Salted Pistachio Sorbet from Wal-Mart. I personally prefer a more prominent pistachio note rather than the sweet. I hope this guide will help you decide which version is best for you based on your preferences!

I’ve decided to dedicate the majority of March to floral scents and most of my picks for this burn list have pink wax. We still have yet to move but it WILL be happening this month. I’ll be spending a lot of time both packing things up and then unpacking at our new place. During this time I want clean scents to fill my space and the following fragrances are perfect for that!

CANDLES

• Lavender Macaron“Celebrate the city of love with a truly French treat that combines the scent of lavender blossoms with a patisserie cookie”
• Sugar Flower“An irresistible combination of powdered sugar, pink cream, and vanilla”
• Jelly Beans“A handful of grape jelly beans, coated with sugar and ready to enjoy, with a few lemon and raspberry added in the mix”
• Champagne ToastGlittering champagne, wild berries, tangerine zest”
• Mocha Latte Swirl“Recharge with the wonderfully rich scent of espresso and creamy caramel, topped with whipped cream”

WAX MELTS

Pink Velvet“This sweet and fun fragrance mingles sugared lemon, apple and pineapple into a sweet heart of tropical punch and red currant. Sugar cane and vanilla bean in the base deliver a captivating finish.”
Pink Tulips“Sweet night-blooming jasmine is enlivened by juicy apple and raspberries, a fresh fragrance that is the harbinger of sunny days to come.”
Rose SodaA blend of floral rose and effervescent soda
Umbridge “Tea & cakes, sugar dusted roses and cotton candy”

It may seem like my burn list is a bit ambitious during a month dedicated to moving. I am pretty confident I’ll get through all of this though since I’ll be melting at two places. The only candle that may carry over to the following month is Jelly Beans. Towards the end of month I actually plan on melting tea scents to transition into April too!

November was a tough month for me; a lot of obstacles were thrown my way all the while I was constantly on the go. I’m one of those people that needs their relaxing alone time and I didn’t get much of that this month. It was definitely a slower burning month but I did get through 6 candles and 6 wax melts!

November 2016 Candle Empties

Smoked Caramel (1-wick) – The name of this candle describes this fragrance best – you get an equally strong caramel and smoky scent. It’s a really interesting combination from Target that’s perfect for the Fall. However, this only threw around a 2 even when put on the melter and wouldn’t pool out even when tin foiled. If it had a better performance I definitely would’ve picked up another.
Sweater Weather (1-wick) – Can you believe I’ve NEVER burned this scent before?! I don’t know why I waited so long to experience this candle. On cold it has more of a cologne note but when melting a background apple comes out. Next Fall I’ll definitely be picking up my first 3-wick!
Autumn Leaves (1-wick) – Wow, this was the strongest Yankee Candle I’ve ever burned. Within minutes of lighting this it filled my entire open concept living room. Aside from the great burn, the scent was a fresh Fall fragrance with undertones of apple and cinnamon. Absolutely amazing and I will repurchase again next year!
Cranberry Chutney (1-wick) – This is a nice sweet cranberry scent but only threw around a 3 in my small kitchen. It was nice but way too light (especially for the amount of oils that were visible) for me to ever repurchase.
Autumn Air (1-wick) – I’m still struggling to determine if this is a dupe for BBW’s Marshmallow Fireside or Radiant Red Maple. It definitely leans more towards MF but has a slight apple undertone. Yet this was another Yankee that didn’t throw well. I probably won’t waste my money again and will just stick to the BBW classics.
Chestnut & Clove (3-wick) – This is an absolutely amazing transition fragrance from Fall to Winter. It has a top note of clove, mid-note of chestnuts, and an undertone of vanilla. I usually burn this the week leading up to Thanksgiving and it didn’t disappoint this year. My only issue was that the wicks were off center making it difficult to pool out. Either way this is a hoard worthy one for me!

November 2016 Wax Empties

Brandied Pumpkin – This was a very nice pumpkin fragrance but didn’t have much of a brandy note. I enjoyed it while it lasted but wouldn’t repurchase, like most Kringle products.
Autumn Winds – I think this is pretty comparable to BBW Ski Lodge if not an exact dupe. It was a great bedroom scent but again I wouldn’t repurchase.
Perfect Pumpkin Ale – I enjoyed this much more than I expected to! It definitely had pumpkin (which is always a nice surprise) and you could really smell that ale note. If this comes out again next year I’ll definitely pick it up again – I’m trying to downsize my collection a bit before stocking up on more.
Caramel Pumpkin Seeds – This was a beautiful caramel pumpkin combination on cold sniff but it didn’t translate the same when warm. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping to and would hold off on buying again.
Cranberry Cookie Crumble – This was my favorite wax melt of the month and I went through 2 clam shells! There is a tart cranberry top note mixed with a sweet cookie fragrance. It really is wonderful and I have already bought back ups!

November 2016 Fragrance Empties

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (wallflower) – Oh my gosh, I think this was my favorite form of this fragrance yet. You don’t get as much “cereal” scent like from the candle making it a delicious sweet fragrance. I hope they release this again next year!
Chestnut & Clove (wallflower) – In wallflower form, the vanilla comes out so much more than the candle. I still enjoy it just as much but it does tend to start having a Marshmallow Fireside feel to it. I wish this was released in this form again because I don’t have anymore in my collection!
Pumpkin Cranberry Cider (hand sanitizer) – Like most BBW products, there is no pumpkin in this. It does have a strong tart cranberry scent and an undertone of cider. It was nice but not my favorite.
Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (soap) – Last year I was dying to get my hands on this soap after using it at my mom’s house. However it did not smell like PPW at all – I wouldn’t be surprised if the wrong label was thrown onto this bottle.
Marshmallow Mittens (hand sanitizer) – This is essentially Marshmallow Fireside in sanitizer form and I’m so sad that they didn’t come out with this again!

While it was a slower month for melting I had some pleasant surprises like Autumn Leaves from Yankee Candle and Cranberry Cookie Crumble from Better Homes and Garden. I’m excited for some sweeter scents to get in the holiday spirit in December, I think my first pick will be Marshmallow Fireside – it’s usually the candle I melt while I decorate my Christmas tree!
