I FINALLY CAVED. I went on Ebay and purchased one of my favorite rare candles that Bath & Body Works never brought back. Being someone who has never purchased a candle at full price, it actually hurt spending more than I ever normally would. But, when you see a decent price for 2 mason jars of Raspberry Peach Macaron you don’t think twice as you hit ‘place order’.

This shopping experience really got me thinking, why does Bath & Body Works seem to retire all of their best scents? For example, here are just a few fan favorites:

Pink Petal Teacake
Radiant Red Maple
Raspberry Peach Macaron
Strawberry Rhubarb Marmalade
Winter Garland
Cider Donut
Cranberry Pumpkin

Go on Ebay or Mercari and you will see these fragrances selling for an obscene amount of money. If Bath & Body Works did any sort of research they’d realize if these scents were brought back to the market they’d make a great deal of money for their corporation. Sales couldn’t have been that bad when these candles were initially brought to market if there’s this big of a fan following.

So why doesn’t Bath & Body Works return all of these favorable fragrances? Here are a few of my theories.

1. Forgotten Formula

I feel like Raspberry Peach Macaron is a prime example of this. The wax community has never been able to find a dupe for this fragrance from any other wax vendors. Is this scent so unique that no one can duplicate it, including the original source? I’ve heard of breweries not writing down their brew formulas and never being able to replicate it, so maybe it’s the same when it comes to our favorite candles.

Raspberry Peach Macaron - Bath & Body Works Retired Candle

2. Formula Issues

Again, Raspberry Peach Macaron is another prime example for this theory. Anyone selling this 2014 candle online states that there is crystallization in the wax. Consumers have called corporate regarding this issue and were ensured that ‘this was an ongoing problem for this specific scent and it wouldn’t effect the overall burning experience.’ Maybe the company wanted to bring this fragrance back but just couldn’t solve the wax crystallization issue. However, I haven’t heard of this happening to any other candles.

3. Collection Size

It’s no secret that Bath & Body Works always brings back it’s returning “favorites” each season in multiple collections. Maybe they are well aware that we want the other scents to come back too but know that Marshmallow Fireside, Leaves, etc are better sellers. Having been involved with the process of creating lines of products before, I know higher ups give marketers a specific number of slots to fill with products. It could really be as simple as this; BBW looking at their sales and not having the shelf space or sku’s available for our other rare favorites.

These theories of mine may not be correct at all or maybe it’s a mixture of the three. No matter the reason, it would be nice to see some of the best scents from the past several years brought back again. Even if it’s just one more time in a ‘Fan Favorites’ collection! Or it would be nice if they rotated our their retuning favorites each year. Hopefully one day Bath & Body Works will listen to us and we will be able to get our hands on these fragrances again at a decent price!

Like most candle addicts, I was counting down the days for SAS to begin at Bath & Body Works. I’m not exactly sure why since I never find anything exciting in my region. I called around all the stores within 50 miles and not one had any 75% off candles. The closest store that had anything worth buying was a White Barn 1.5 hours away. So we made the trek and luckily found my beloved Chocolate Pistachio along with other fall favorites. I ended up grabbing 7 candles for $30 but was pretty bummed I had to go so far out of my way to get that deal.

Spring 2017 SAS Candle Haul

Prior to making the journey to White Barn, I stopped at my two local BBW stores and grabbed a few small items. They FINALLY had the french candles so I picked up Paris Cafe which is supposedly a dupe for Espresso Bar from back in the day. I personally don’t think this is an exact dupe and am picking up a slight bitter almond note. I’ll still give it a try and burn it since others seem to enjoy this much more than the original EB.

Spring 2017 SAS Candle Haul

All three stores I visited that first day of SAS had $3 tester candles available. I picked up these few scents that I enjoy, but not enough to get the 3-wicks of. I was pretty shocked at the amount of fragrances they had available and would’ve grabbed more if I didn’t just stock up in January. Along with these baby candles, I picked up a couple summer wax melts to use in the next couple months.

While I did find the one candle that I wanted and some other fun items, I just wasn’t all that impressed by the selection and sale prices BBW had to offer. There were some body care items I wanted but at 50% off it’s not the best deal. Unlike years past, I’m not planning on returning again to haul anything else. What do you think about this SAS and did you find any exciting items? Share in the comments!

May always tends to be a slow burning month in my home due to spring allergies. Combine that with still trying to get settled in the new house plus being busy every weekend and you get the slowest month of melting in well over a year. This past May I burned through only ONE candle and 4 wax melts.

May 2017 Candle Empties - Melting with Michelle

Berry Vanilla Bean (3-wick) – This candle smelled like a mixed berry buttercream frosting. It was a really nice spring fragrance but I hoped a bakery note would come through while burning. It threw really well in our new space and had a strength around a 7. It burned flawlessly and I recommend seeking it out during SAS if this is a type of scent you’re interested in.

May 2017 Wax Empties - Melting with Michelle

Blueberry Muffin – This truly smelled like a fresh baked muffin with a slight blueberry undertone and I really enjoyed it in melt form. I would absolutely repurchase if the price was right; Kringle’s melt prices are a bit steep for such a small amount of wax.
Blueberry Cake Donut – On cold this was an amazing blueberry icing fragrance with a donut bakery base. However, I think this melt was a bit too old because it smelled like a sweet crayon when melting. Probably wouldn’t bother repurchasing.
Strawberry Swirl – A really sweet strawberry milkshake fragrance from Scentsy that I wish I could still get my hands on! By itself it was too light but was totally amped up when mixed with Vanilla Cookie Crunch. A blend I wish I could melt for much longer!
Wild Berry Cheesecake – In the past I’ve described this as the best berry scent every created and I still stand by that. I honestly don’t need any other mixed berry scents for the future aside from this one, that’s how good it is. Go to your local Wal-mart and sniff it out for yourself!

May 2017 Fragrance Empties - Melting with Michelle

Berry Vanilla Bean (wallflower) – The wallflower version of the scent was even heavier than the candle and I didn’t care for it much. After a few weeks it became really discolored so I just took it out before all the oil evaporated.
Lemon Mint Leaf (wallflower) – This fragrance was so light that I hardly smelled it at all. Once the oils became discolored it started emitting an awful rotten scent. I wouldn’t repurchase this again in any form factor and will probably use anything left in my stash as decor.
Golden Autumn Day (hand cream) – Being the second hand cream in this scent that I’ve finished up within the past six months, I think it’s safe to say I adore the scent and formula. It’s very refreshing with apple undertones and is long-lasting. Hoping they’ll bring this back again in the fall!
Sweet Lemon Buttercream (body cream) – A really soft & creamy lemon fragrance perfect for the spring! I’m already stocked up and highly suggest picking some up during SAS!
Lemon Buttercream (hand soap) – Like the last soap in this fragrance that I used in March, it had hardly any lemon notes and was very astringent. Happy not to have anymore left in my stash and will be very weary of lemon soaps in the future!
Cotton Blossom (hand soap) – This was a repackage of Sea Island Cotton which is my favorite hand soap. It’s fresh, clean, and the scent lingers. Hands down will always repurchase this fragrance no matter what it is called!

May was definitely a slow burning month and I have a feeling June will be very similar. I’m still trying to find the optimum place to burn candles for maximum throw and honestly don’t have a burn list planned. What scents do you think I should melt next month to get out of this slump? Share in the comments!

April was a crazy busy month because we FINALLY moved! Between packing everything up, moving it all, and trying to start unpacking I didn’t have too much time to focus on my melting life. With that in mind, I was able to get through 3 candles and 11 wax melts.

April 2017 Candle Empties

Sugared Lemon Zest (3-wick) – This is a dupe for the BBW staple Limoncello which is a basic sugared lemon fragrance. Surprisingly this is the first time I’ve tried it out and honestly wasn’t too impressed. It’s a nice scent that had a decent throw but even with the sweetness it smelled a bit too much like cleaner for me. I’ll pass on variations in the future.
Key Lime pie (3-wick) – Wow, this candle was incredible and absolutely lived up to the hype! I was crazy about the sweet bakery lime fragrance on cold and it didn’t disappoint when burning either. Flawless burn and threw around an 8. I got a few more stashed away for coming years and highly recommend getting your hands on this at Kohl’s before they’re gone for good!
Lemon Pound Cake (1-wick, DNF) – On cold, this was the perfect bakery lemon fragrance! Unfortunately the burn was so bad and there was 0 throw so I decided to just DNF the candle. I have one more candle in my collection from Our Own Candle Company that I’ll be giving a try this summer and I’m crossing my fingers for better results!

April 2017 Wax Empties

Pink Velvet – I clearly couldn’t get enough of this sugary citrus scent last month and melted through another clamshell. I’ll always want to repurchase this and have a few more stocked up in case they discontinue it!
Gryffindor – On cold this just smelled like another basic lemon fragrance, but upon melting more of the raspberry that is promised comes out. I enjoyed it while it lasted but just wasn’t crazy about it.
Limoncello (x4) – This smelled exactly like the Sugared Lemon Zest candle and helped amp it up while burning. Again, it smelled too much like cleaner for me and I just wanted to get through my stash.
Iced Lemon Poundcake (x2) – My absolute favorite lemon fragrance on the market! I love mixing this with Vanilla Cookie Crunch and filling my home with the most delicious lemon bakery scent. Now that I’ve tried a few other lemon scents, I can tell you this is all I want to focus on in years to come. Will be stocking up since it’s a limited edition!
Vanilla Cookie Crunch – A beautiful bakery fragrance amazing on it’s own or mixed with just about anything. I only buy the bulk packs and this is the second clamshell I’ve gone through this year. I always have more stocked up too!
Key Lime Pie – This is a perfect example of Kohl’s quality – the candle in this fragrance was outstanding but the melt just smelled like lime crayons. It wasn’t appealing in the least bit and had to be mixed with VCC. Would not recommend trying this form, just stick to the candle!
Happy Home – If you’re a fan of lemon-lime scents, this is a great option for you. It turns out I’m not crazy about the combination and just quickly melted through this clamshell. It also had a strong waxy note that sometimes overpowered the actual fragrance. Definitely won’t be picking this up ever again.

April 2017 Fragrance Empties

Tea & Lemon (wallflower) – Slightly sweetened tea with a hint of lemon juice make this great fragrance. It unfortunately didn’t perform as well as past years but I still enjoyed it when I got whiffs. If BBW brings this back I’ll stock-up!
Cotton Candy (hand soap) – A basic sweet fragrance perfect for spring, but didn’t linger at all after washing your hands which was a disappointment. Not sure I’ll go out of my way to pick up this Easter soap again in the future if the quality doesn’t improve.

I think it’s safe to say that when things get busy I tend to melt more than burn. The lemon-lime theme was quite enjoyable and my hands-down favorite of the month was Key Lime Pie from Kohl’s. I probably won’t have time to post a burn list for May, but I’m going to try focusing on berry fragrances and can’t wait to share everything with you when time permits!

Even though February is the shortest month of the year, it felt pretty long to me! Maybe it’s because we’ve been waiting for our official move date or due to the several big snow storms followed by 70 degree weather. No matter the reason, it was an enjoyable burning month for me – I got through 8 candles and 7 wax melts!

February 2017 Candle Empties

Macaron Treats (1-wick) – This didn’t exactly smell like a macaron to me, more like a light almond-vanilla cake. There wasn’t an overpowering almond extract note which I really appreciated. It’s definitely a gourmand fragrance but unfortunately only threw at about 2 in my small bathroom.
Christmas Cakes (1-wick) – On cold, this truly smelled like the Little Debbie christmas tree cakes. It’s pretty much a vanilla and white chocolate combination, also more of a gourmand fragrance than straight up bakery. Unfortunately, there was absolutely 0 throw while burning in my small bathroom.
Peanut Butter Cookie (2-wick) – For any BBW Hot Cocoa & Cream lovers, this is pretty much an exact dupe. Burning this smells like a freshly baked brownie with the slightest undertone of salty peanuts. This was my first Crossroads candle; it threw at a 9 the entire time and burned flawlessly.
Peanut Butter Sugar (3-wick) – An all-time favorite fragrance of mine that I’ve mentioned often, however this was the first time I burned it in candle form. It was even better than the wax melt and threw at a steady 7 the entire time! Truly an amazing salty, sweet candle for this time of year that I would pick up again without second guessing.
Honey Lavender Gelato (1-wick) – In true Yankee fashion, this was practically unscented. What little I could smell was kind of sour which was disappointing because on cold it’s a smooth berry fragrance. I really wanted to love this but won’t be picking it up again in any form factor.
Chocolate Pistachio (3-wick) – Wow, this smelled truly amazing. It was all peanut with bottom notes of chocolate and seriously smelled like a Snickers bar. While it threw around a 7 it continuously got PWS, had to be cotton-balled, and struggled to pool out. If BBW brings this back I’ll pick it up again but won’t stock up because it’s a unique scent that I would only burn during February.
Cinnamon Sugared Doughnut (3-wick) – Can you believe that I’ve never burned CSD before? It’s a beautiful blend of bakery dough, a touch of cinnamon, and a slight greasiness. This unfortunately only threw around a 4 or 5 and had thick, chubby wicks. I wasn’t impressed with this version but would definitely give a stronger iteration a try.
Winter Rose (1-wick) – I am not a floral person but this fragrance was really nice! It’s definitely all rose but had a clean type of scent to it. It took a while to pool out but once it did it threw around an 8. I wouldn’t be quick to pick it up again but did enjoy it while it lasted!

February 2017 Wax Empties

Sparkling Cream Soda – When I first purchased this wax melt in 2016 it was a beautiful bubbly blend of creamy vanilla. However, after a short 4 months this lost 98% of it’s scent. It also had glitter mixed into the wax which was terrible to clean out of my dishes. I didn’t even bother finishing the entire clamshell.
Merry Berry Linzer
(x2) – This was a really sweet bakery scent perfect to melt alongside some of the other chocolate fragrances this month. The top notes were a fruity mixture of raspberry and cherries with a delicious undertone of shortbread cookie. Very happy to have a couple more backups of this!
Eskimo Kiss – This is a really unique fragrance; there is an effervescent fruity note combined with spun sugar. Even though it sounds so obviously sweet it almost has a fresh quality to it too. The combination is just beautiful and this could really be warmed any time of the year. Hoping Scentsy brings this back next Winter!
Cotton Candy Cookie – True to it’s name, this was a very strong spun sugar scent with undertones of lemon and raspberry. It really was a delicious fragrance that threw well but lacked a bakery note.
Candy Dandy –  A pretty underwhelming and basic sugar candy fragrance. Think of getting sweethearts, sweet tarts, etc and throwing them all in a bowl and melting it down. Nothing exciting and it barely threw.
Sugared Cinnamon Donut – This was an insanely strong cinnamon vanilla fragrance but lacked a realistic bakery note. It was nice but I don’t plan on picking it up again.

February 2017 Home Fragrance Empties

Lavender Vanilla (wallflowers) – I am a big fan of lavender scents when they are done right, unfortunately for BBW this version was just wrong. It’s straight up lavender and vanilla essential oil. Combined they are not pleasing and it smells like a mixture of products you’d be using when changing a baby’s diaper. Of course, these wallflowers were great throwers too for the first week and then quickly dudded out.
White Birch & Vanilla (hand soap) – I’m usually a seasonal fragrance girl so this was pretty out of the ordinary for me to use since it smelled somewhere in between the Autumn and Leaves candles from BBW. A very nice scent that I still enjoyed even though it was very misplaced for February.
Gingerbread Latte (body cream) – To me, this was more of a delicious sugar cookie scent than BBW’s other fan favorite Vanilla Bean Noel. This was absolutely perfect for the holidays and had a hint of nutmeg reminiscing beloved holiday treats.

February was certainly a sweet melting month! My favorite fragrance was probably Chocolate Pistachio which I really wasn’t expecting. I was able to melt through everything on my burn list (and then some) and can’t wait to get into some transitional Spring scents in March!

Last year, I randomly wanted to burn a key lime pie scented candle. Of course, there weren’t any available on the market at that time which is probably why I really wanted the fragrance in my collection. Since then, anytime I come across a key lime pie candle I immediately purchase it without question. Now I’ve gathered 3 Key Lime Pie candles from different companies and naturally they all vary slightly. I thought it would be nice to give you a comparison if you’re ever in a similar situation of needing some key lime in your life.

Yankee Candle – Key Lime Pie from YC is extremely zesty with a hint of whipped vanilla, there really isn’t any crust note to balance it out. It’s really just a nice lime scent for the summer months.

Bath & Body Works – I luckily came across BBW’s failed test scent Key Lime Pie at an outlet and it smells more like a key lime cheesecake. You get the graham cracker crust that YC’s version was lacking, however, there is just something off in regards to the cream note.

Kohl’s – Surprisingly, this department store brand nailed their Key Lime Pie candle. It is EXACTLY what I wanted and imagined a KLP fragrance to smell like. You get the authentic graham cracker crust and the perfect blend of key lime and vanilla filling; it’s divine.

If you’re in the market for a nice key lime pie fragrance, I highly recommend stopping by your local Kohl’s and picking up one of their candles. Their version is the best out of any I’ve had the chance to smell. Not that you can buy the other two retired scents anymore, but my second favorite was from BBW and my least favorite was from YC. I hope this has helped you decide what type of key lime fragrance you’re looking for and will help validate a worthy purchase!

By mid-January we glimpsed all of the Spring 2017 candle collections from most companies. In my opinion it’s pretty underwhelming. It doesn’t bother me how early in the year we see these scents, it’s the specific fragrances that I have a problem with. Below are the 3 major collections I’ve noticed and my thoughts on them.

Yankee Candle
released a whopping 4 new fragrances for Spring; 2 fresh scents & 2 gourmand. For what it’s worth, this might be one of the better collections they’ve released during this time of year. However, do we really need another floral or fresh scent? Another berry? Another coffee? These fragrances are just good but I was hoping for something great, like the 2016 Cookie Swap Collection.

Bath & Body Works seriously needs to take a step back. Why are they releasing tropical and Summer scents this early? Why did they all together skip Spring? This is by far my favorite candle company but they just don’t release fragrances on a logical timeline. Even their 2-3 bakery scents involve fruits that are ripe in the Summer months.

I normally don’t ever consider Kohl’s a company to look out for in regards to home fragrance. However, they created the best lineup for Spring 2017 so far. They of course have a tropical collection so they can stay competitive with everyone else BUT they actually did a second Spring bakery collection. Finally, someone caught on. A lot of the scents are too light for me, but they released a Key Lime Pie candle and it’s the best I’ve every smelled across all the brands.

What bothers me the most is that I need to buy my Summer candles NOW because by the time I actually want to burn them, they won’t be available to purchase. If these companies paid any attention to their consumers, they’d know that the majority of the wax community is dying for a sweet shoppe collection. Give us bakery & gourmand. It’s okay to be creative and mix floral and bakery OR fruity and bakery. Some of the best Spring candles were Raspberry Peach Macaron and Pink Petal Teacake. Why can’t they reformulate and give us something interesting rather than coconut and berries?

What are your thoughts on the Spring 2017 candle collections? Share in the comments!

While November was a slower burning month, I certainly made up for it in December! I unfortunately was home sick for half of the month giving me much more time burn candles! (Priorities, right?) At this point I’m traveling for the remainder of the year and won’t be melting much of anything else. I tried to stay with a festive theme throughout December and ended up burning 12 candles and 12 wax melts!

December 2016 Candle Empties

Marshmallow Fireside (3-wick & 1-wick) – I always kick off December with this classic scent. It’s both sweet and smoky creating a cozy atmosphere perfect for this time of year. If I didn’t have so many other candles to go through I would probably just burn this all month long. The 3-wick performed great until the last third and the 1-wick’s barely threw at all.
Cozy Cabin (1-wick) – This is Kringle’s version of MF but the smoky note is more detectable than the sweet. It would’ve been enjoyable if I could even smell it burning. It had a throw of about 2 when I was standing over it. Yet another disappointment from that company.
Peppermint Marshmallow (3-wick) – I think this is my favorite peppermint scent to burn during this season. Have you ever had a thin peppermint cocoa crisp cookie? That’s the best way to describe this, it smells like a crisp you’ve just broken in half. The marshmallow note in the name is more of sweet cocoa rather than true marshmallow. Either way it’s a delicious fragrance with decent throw!
Red Velvet Cupcake (3-wick) – Another favorite fragrance to burn during the month, especially while baking Christmas cookies! It’s a rich chocolate fragrance that throws around a 8. While amazing it can become overpowering fairly quick.
Winter Mint & Spruce (3-wick) – This was a spur of the moment purchase during the 8.50 candle sale. If there wasn’t that woodsy spruce bottom note, it would’ve probably smelled like toothpaste. I burned this in the mornings and while cleaning. It threw around an 8 and had a gorgeous wax color. While I enjoyed it I probably wouldn’t repurchase.
Peppermint Cocoa (1-wick) – I was absolutley obsessed with this Kringle fragrance on cold – it smelled like an Andes thin mint chocolate. However, when burning the peppermint and cocoa notes didn’t mix well together. OF COURSE this was the one candle from the company that threw around a 5.
Winter Night (1-wick) – This is a throwback fragrance from at least 3 years ago that I needed to de-stash. It didn’t have a great throw (possibly because it’s old) and smells almost identical to Winter. There is the slightest hint of smokiness thrown in and possibly another woodsy note. I’m not really surprised this hasn’t made a comeback.
Hot Cocoa & Cream (3-wick) – The infamous new scent of the season! It smells exactly hot cocoa mix on cold but freshly baked brownies out of the oven when burning. It throws around an 8 and burned great. I really enjoy it and have already stocked up – this is really the only true chocolate candle I have in my collection!
Smoked Vanilla (3-wick) – This is really a unique fragrance! At first you might think it’s just a repackage of MF but there is definitely much more smokiness. The smokiness also has an underlying note of bacon which is not a bad thing. Any vanilla in this candle is at the bottom and very subtle. It’s an absolutely wonderful fragrance to burn on winter morning’s and throws around a 7.
Winter (3-wick) – Another BBW classic! This is the only true outdoorsy fragrance I burn throughout the season and always light it up closer to Christmas. It truly smells like going outside during a fresh snowfall – it even makes my nose feel a bit cold! It throws around a 9 and will forever be a repurchase.
Merry Mint (DNF 1-wick) – On cold, this was the perfect creamy mint chocolate scent. Too bad it had absolutely 0 throw the handful of times I burned it and then smelling it on cold just smelled like burnt wax. I did not finish this terrible candle and am donating it to goodwill. Crossing my fingers that the other pure radiance candles do better than this one!

December 2016 Wax Empties

Santa’s Cookie Crumble – One of my last fragrance from Crossroads and it wasn’t too bad. It smelled almost exactly like BBW Cinnamon Sugared Donut without the greasiness. It’s not exactly what I associate with holiday cookies but enjoyable nonetheless.
Campfire Marshmallow – Goose Creek’s version of MF with a hint of toastiness. Enjoyable and would potentially repurchase closer to the holiday season next year.
Cozy Cabin – This smelled exactly like the candle already described but I could actually smell this while it lasted. Kringle’s melts don’t tend to last longer than 6-8 hours and are only worth it on a good deal.
Peppermint Cocoa – Again, this smelled exactly like the candle and wasn’t enjoyable due to the astringent fragrance when warm. I melted the 2 that I had on hand to get rid of them.
Milk & Cookies – Now this was a nice surprise from Yankee! It’s very comparable to CSD but with much more creaminess. It really was delicious and I went through the 3 tarts I had in stock. If they ever release this in candle form again I’ll probably pick it up.
Candy Cane Lane – Another peppermint fragrance I adore on cold but wasn’t the biggest fan of while melting. This is just straight up peppermint and I think you really need to be in the mood for it. I still have a full large jar in my collection and have a feeling it will take a while to burn through in the coming years.
First Snow – This is Kringle’s version of Winter but with a hint more citrus and was quite nice. Not the strongest wax melt and I’ll probably just stick to the classic BBW scent going forward.
Eggnog – Scentsy nailed this fragrance, it smells EXACTLY like eggnog. However, it only smells like this for 2-3 hours and they just smells like candy before it doesn’t have any oils left at all. Even though this is the biggest let down burn-wise from Scentsy, it’s still wonderful while it lasts.
Rum Raisin Cookie – Another fragrance that Scentsy nailed. It truly smells like a freshly baked raisin cookie with an undertone of rum extract. It’s delicious and perfect for the holiday season! I highly recommend giving it a try when you’re placing your next order!

December 2016 Fragrance Empties

Cookies for Santa (soap) – This was a very sweet & sugary fragrance but didn’t smell like any cookies I’ve ever baked or had. It was nice but nothing to go crazy for.
Marshmallow Fireside (wallflower) – I was only able to get whiffs of this throughout the month which was disappointing since it’s an all-time favorite fragrance of mine. I’ll continue to try the scent in this form every year though.
Hot Cocoa & Cream (wallflower) – This had the same effect while warming and smelled like freshly baked brownies. It’s an odd fragrance to have as a wallflower but luckily it didn’t throw much after the first week.

I really enjoyed the sweet scents filling my home throughout December and I really can’t choose a favorite! I’ll be narrowing down my favorites of the entire year later this week in my 2016 recap, but in the meantime tell me what you burned through this month in the comments below!

November was a tough month for me; a lot of obstacles were thrown my way all the while I was constantly on the go. I’m one of those people that needs their relaxing alone time and I didn’t get much of that this month. It was definitely a slower burning month but I did get through 6 candles and 6 wax melts!

November 2016 Candle Empties

Smoked Caramel (1-wick) – The name of this candle describes this fragrance best – you get an equally strong caramel and smoky scent. It’s a really interesting combination from Target that’s perfect for the Fall. However, this only threw around a 2 even when put on the melter and wouldn’t pool out even when tin foiled. If it had a better performance I definitely would’ve picked up another.
Sweater Weather (1-wick) – Can you believe I’ve NEVER burned this scent before?! I don’t know why I waited so long to experience this candle. On cold it has more of a cologne note but when melting a background apple comes out. Next Fall I’ll definitely be picking up my first 3-wick!
Autumn Leaves (1-wick) – Wow, this was the strongest Yankee Candle I’ve ever burned. Within minutes of lighting this it filled my entire open concept living room. Aside from the great burn, the scent was a fresh Fall fragrance with undertones of apple and cinnamon. Absolutely amazing and I will repurchase again next year!
Cranberry Chutney (1-wick) – This is a nice sweet cranberry scent but only threw around a 3 in my small kitchen. It was nice but way too light (especially for the amount of oils that were visible) for me to ever repurchase.
Autumn Air (1-wick) – I’m still struggling to determine if this is a dupe for BBW’s Marshmallow Fireside or Radiant Red Maple. It definitely leans more towards MF but has a slight apple undertone. Yet this was another Yankee that didn’t throw well. I probably won’t waste my money again and will just stick to the BBW classics.
Chestnut & Clove (3-wick) – This is an absolutely amazing transition fragrance from Fall to Winter. It has a top note of clove, mid-note of chestnuts, and an undertone of vanilla. I usually burn this the week leading up to Thanksgiving and it didn’t disappoint this year. My only issue was that the wicks were off center making it difficult to pool out. Either way this is a hoard worthy one for me!

November 2016 Wax Empties

Brandied Pumpkin – This was a very nice pumpkin fragrance but didn’t have much of a brandy note. I enjoyed it while it lasted but wouldn’t repurchase, like most Kringle products.
Autumn Winds – I think this is pretty comparable to BBW Ski Lodge if not an exact dupe. It was a great bedroom scent but again I wouldn’t repurchase.
Perfect Pumpkin Ale – I enjoyed this much more than I expected to! It definitely had pumpkin (which is always a nice surprise) and you could really smell that ale note. If this comes out again next year I’ll definitely pick it up again – I’m trying to downsize my collection a bit before stocking up on more.
Caramel Pumpkin Seeds – This was a beautiful caramel pumpkin combination on cold sniff but it didn’t translate the same when warm. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I was hoping to and would hold off on buying again.
Cranberry Cookie Crumble – This was my favorite wax melt of the month and I went through 2 clam shells! There is a tart cranberry top note mixed with a sweet cookie fragrance. It really is wonderful and I have already bought back ups!

November 2016 Fragrance Empties

Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (wallflower) – Oh my gosh, I think this was my favorite form of this fragrance yet. You don’t get as much “cereal” scent like from the candle making it a delicious sweet fragrance. I hope they release this again next year!
Chestnut & Clove (wallflower) – In wallflower form, the vanilla comes out so much more than the candle. I still enjoy it just as much but it does tend to start having a Marshmallow Fireside feel to it. I wish this was released in this form again because I don’t have anymore in my collection!
Pumpkin Cranberry Cider (hand sanitizer) – Like most BBW products, there is no pumpkin in this. It does have a strong tart cranberry scent and an undertone of cider. It was nice but not my favorite.
Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (soap) – Last year I was dying to get my hands on this soap after using it at my mom’s house. However it did not smell like PPW at all – I wouldn’t be surprised if the wrong label was thrown onto this bottle.
Marshmallow Mittens (hand sanitizer) – This is essentially Marshmallow Fireside in sanitizer form and I’m so sad that they didn’t come out with this again!

While it was a slower month for melting I had some pleasant surprises like Autumn Leaves from Yankee Candle and Cranberry Cookie Crumble from Better Homes and Garden. I’m excited for some sweeter scents to get in the holiday spirit in December, I think my first pick will be Marshmallow Fireside – it’s usually the candle I melt while I decorate my Christmas tree!

October, the month of pumpkin everything. It was definitely another busy month for me; between seeing Harry Potter in theaters, visiting the Jack-O-Lantern Spectactular, trying on wedding dresses, carving pumpkins, and doing other Halloween activities I still had a mountain of work to catch up on too. Through all of that I managed to burn 9 candles and 8 wax melts.

October 2016 Candle Empties

Forbidden Apple (1-wick) – This medium jar from Yankee was a disappointment; it only threw at about a 2 and I really didn’t like the lack of visibility due to the black jar. It’s a basic apple scent and I will not repurchase if it sticks around next year.
Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake (3-wick) – Don’t be fooled, this fragrance does not have any pumpkin notes in it. It is a wonderful spiced cheesecake scent perfect for October. However, half-way through it started smelly really funky and I couldn’t stomach it any longer.
Pumpkin Pie (3-wick & 1-wick) – I burned through 2 large & 1 small jars of this fragrance and it was wonderful while it lasted. I say that because I had to put them all on candle warmers due to poor performance. This is truly the ultimate pumpkin fragrance that I hope always returns.
Pumpkin Pecan Waffles (3-wick) – This scent was definitely altered from past years but I really loved it! It threw great and burned almost the entire way without issues. Not something to stock up on because BBW will always bring this back.
Pumpkin Spice (3-wick) – A fragrance that is almost identical to Pumpkin Pie but lacking the buttery crust note. It only threw at about a 3 and was completely unmemorable.
Pumpkin Cupcake (3-wick) – What a wonderfully spicy vanilla scent that will forever be perfect for this month. It threw great and was strong but eventually had to be put on the warmer.
Pumpkin Buttercream (3-wick) – I absolutely adore this fragrance on cold sniff – it is pretty comparable to Pumpkin Cupcake. However, it barely threw in my small kitchen which was a disappointment.

October 2016 Wax Empties

Caramel Butter – Goose Creek either does scents really good or really bad and this was one of the bad ones. This smelled like burnt caramel and was just repulsive. I was able to slightly save it by mixing it with Vanilla Cookie Crunch but would never re-purchase or recommend.
Cider Mill – On cold sniff, this fragrance didn’t really impress me but it totally transformed while melting. It was pretty comparable to BBW Pumpkin Apple which is a wonderful mixture of all the best Fall scents. This was nice to have in the background but didn’t last very long – I probably wouldn’t repurchase this one either.
Pumpkin Spice Muffin – This truly did smell like a pumpkin muffin on cold sniff, however it lost it’s bakery note while melting. It was still nice but nothing outstanding to spend money on again in the future.
A Thankful Harvest – A 2015 exclusive scent that was amazing! It was a creamy pumpkin apple fragrance that was amped up in comparison to other fragranced like Cider Mill. I really enjoyed this and if it ever came back out I’d stock up on a few.
Cider House Donuts – I talked more about this amazing fragrance last month and couldn’t help melting another clamshell of it before the season was over! I’ll repurchase as long as it’s available.
Pumpkin Cinnamon Ice Cream – While you would expect this to be a creamy fragrance it just smelled like straight up cinnamon. Another disappointment from Goose Creek.
Pumpkin Roll – This was a comparable scent to BBW Pumpkin Cupcake and really amped up that candle. The major difference is that this wax melt actually has a pumpkin note in it. I’ll probably repurchase this fragrance again next year but it’s still not hoard worthy.
Carrot Cake – Last but not least this was my favorite wax melt of the month – a scent that Goose Creek did really great! This smells EXACTLY like a freshly baked carrot cake with a hint of cream cheese frosting. Amazing and 100% stocking up!

October 2016 Fragrance Empties

Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake (wallflower) – Finally a wallflower that released fragrance for an entire  month – too bad it smelled nothing like the candle. This smelled almost like chocolate which is not what I wanted during October.
Pumpkin Pie (wallflower) – Another wallflower that luckily released fragrance all month long and this was the pumpkin pie scent I know and love. Forever a repurchase.
Pumpkin Cupcake (hand soap) – This is one of my favorite fall soaps and smells just like the candle. I will probably repurchase as long as BBW offers it.
Pumpkin Apple Cider (body cream) – I am not a fan of apple body care scents but this was delicious. It was really a cider fragrance that I couldn’t get enough of! If you can still find this in stores I’d pick it up on sale because BBW probably won’t release it again in the future.
Pumpkin Pie (hand sanitizer) – This form of the incredible Pumpkin Pie fragrance was definitely lacking. It smelled strongly of pumpkin but lacked the buttery crust note.

I’ve always looked forward to pumpkin fragrances every year but I think I’ve come to the realization that apple fragrances are much more enjoyable. There were definitely more scents that I didn’t enjoy in October than I did enjoy. I’ll have to keep that in mind for years to come and really narrow down my collection. Looking back on all my empties my absolute favorite was oddly Carrot Cake which although spicy, I associate with January. (It’s my fiancee’s favorite cake and I always make it for his birthday at the beginning of the year.) No matter, I’m looking forward to burning some more outdoorsy fragrances for this upcoming November!
