Even though February is the shortest month of the year, it felt pretty long to me! Maybe it’s because we’ve been waiting for our official move date or due to the several big snow storms followed by 70 degree weather. No matter the reason, it was an enjoyable burning month for me – I got through 8 candles and 7 wax melts!

February 2017 Candle Empties

Macaron Treats (1-wick) – This didn’t exactly smell like a macaron to me, more like a light almond-vanilla cake. There wasn’t an overpowering almond extract note which I really appreciated. It’s definitely a gourmand fragrance but unfortunately only threw at about 2 in my small bathroom.
Christmas Cakes (1-wick) – On cold, this truly smelled like the Little Debbie christmas tree cakes. It’s pretty much a vanilla and white chocolate combination, also more of a gourmand fragrance than straight up bakery. Unfortunately, there was absolutely 0 throw while burning in my small bathroom.
Peanut Butter Cookie (2-wick) – For any BBW Hot Cocoa & Cream lovers, this is pretty much an exact dupe. Burning this smells like a freshly baked brownie with the slightest undertone of salty peanuts. This was my first Crossroads candle; it threw at a 9 the entire time and burned flawlessly.
Peanut Butter Sugar (3-wick) – An all-time favorite fragrance of mine that I’ve mentioned often, however this was the first time I burned it in candle form. It was even better than the wax melt and threw at a steady 7 the entire time! Truly an amazing salty, sweet candle for this time of year that I would pick up again without second guessing.
Honey Lavender Gelato (1-wick) – In true Yankee fashion, this was practically unscented. What little I could smell was kind of sour which was disappointing because on cold it’s a smooth berry fragrance. I really wanted to love this but won’t be picking it up again in any form factor.
Chocolate Pistachio (3-wick) – Wow, this smelled truly amazing. It was all peanut with bottom notes of chocolate and seriously smelled like a Snickers bar. While it threw around a 7 it continuously got PWS, had to be cotton-balled, and struggled to pool out. If BBW brings this back I’ll pick it up again but won’t stock up because it’s a unique scent that I would only burn during February.
Cinnamon Sugared Doughnut (3-wick) – Can you believe that I’ve never burned CSD before? It’s a beautiful blend of bakery dough, a touch of cinnamon, and a slight greasiness. This unfortunately only threw around a 4 or 5 and had thick, chubby wicks. I wasn’t impressed with this version but would definitely give a stronger iteration a try.
Winter Rose (1-wick) – I am not a floral person but this fragrance was really nice! It’s definitely all rose but had a clean type of scent to it. It took a while to pool out but once it did it threw around an 8. I wouldn’t be quick to pick it up again but did enjoy it while it lasted!

February 2017 Wax Empties

Sparkling Cream Soda – When I first purchased this wax melt in 2016 it was a beautiful bubbly blend of creamy vanilla. However, after a short 4 months this lost 98% of it’s scent. It also had glitter mixed into the wax which was terrible to clean out of my dishes. I didn’t even bother finishing the entire clamshell.
Merry Berry Linzer
(x2) – This was a really sweet bakery scent perfect to melt alongside some of the other chocolate fragrances this month. The top notes were a fruity mixture of raspberry and cherries with a delicious undertone of shortbread cookie. Very happy to have a couple more backups of this!
Eskimo Kiss – This is a really unique fragrance; there is an effervescent fruity note combined with spun sugar. Even though it sounds so obviously sweet it almost has a fresh quality to it too. The combination is just beautiful and this could really be warmed any time of the year. Hoping Scentsy brings this back next Winter!
Cotton Candy Cookie – True to it’s name, this was a very strong spun sugar scent with undertones of lemon and raspberry. It really was a delicious fragrance that threw well but lacked a bakery note.
Candy Dandy –  A pretty underwhelming and basic sugar candy fragrance. Think of getting sweethearts, sweet tarts, etc and throwing them all in a bowl and melting it down. Nothing exciting and it barely threw.
Sugared Cinnamon Donut – This was an insanely strong cinnamon vanilla fragrance but lacked a realistic bakery note. It was nice but I don’t plan on picking it up again.

February 2017 Home Fragrance Empties

Lavender Vanilla (wallflowers) – I am a big fan of lavender scents when they are done right, unfortunately for BBW this version was just wrong. It’s straight up lavender and vanilla essential oil. Combined they are not pleasing and it smells like a mixture of products you’d be using when changing a baby’s diaper. Of course, these wallflowers were great throwers too for the first week and then quickly dudded out.
White Birch & Vanilla (hand soap) – I’m usually a seasonal fragrance girl so this was pretty out of the ordinary for me to use since it smelled somewhere in between the Autumn and Leaves candles from BBW. A very nice scent that I still enjoyed even though it was very misplaced for February.
Gingerbread Latte (body cream) – To me, this was more of a delicious sugar cookie scent than BBW’s other fan favorite Vanilla Bean Noel. This was absolutely perfect for the holidays and had a hint of nutmeg reminiscing beloved holiday treats.

February was certainly a sweet melting month! My favorite fragrance was probably Chocolate Pistachio which I really wasn’t expecting. I was able to melt through everything on my burn list (and then some) and can’t wait to get into some transitional Spring scents in March!

Last month I stayed away from sweeter scents, but in February I’m ready to dive back into all the delicious gourmand fragrances. I think it’s the heart shaped boxes filled with chocolate that get me back in the mood for sweets. This month I’m continuing to keep my burn list fairly reasonable since we have yet to move and it could happen anytime now.

CANDLES

• Peanut Butter Cookie“Crushed peanuts, buttercream, cocoa, and vanilla”
• Macaron Treats – “The classic Parisian macaron – sweet as can be and lighter than air, with notes of vanilla, almond and, of course, sugar”
• Chocolate Pistachio“Pistachio, chocolate truffle, and white powdered sugar”
• Christmas Cakes“Celebrate the season with a delicious blend of sugar, candy floss, marshmallow, butter and lemon while a background of brown sugar, vanilla bean and tonka leaves mouths watering.”
• Cinnamon Sugared DoughnutFreshly-baked vanilla cake doughnut covered in sugar crystals and crushed cinnamon.”

WAX MELTS

• Eskimo Kiss“Blackberry jam, caramelized brown sugar, vanilla, and amber in a softly romantic scent.”
• Merry Berry Linzer“Jammy raspberry filling nestled in almond shortbread with a vanilla glaze.”
• Sparkling Cream Soda“An old fashioned soda shop classic having all the bubbly notes frothing over the glass with the truly characteristic, caramelized sugar and vanilla cream aroma.”
• Sugared Cinnamon Donut – “A mouthwatering mix of cinnamon sugar, vanilla bean, and raw sugarcane poured over a warm homemade donut for an ultimate, fresh baked scent.”

I have no doubt that I’ll be able to get through this list – I actually might need to pace myself. I really want to burn the chocolate scents around Valentine’s Day and the donut ones at the end of the month. If I do get through everything quicker than expected I’ll probably start burning Hot Cocoa & Cream, Mocha Latte Swirl, and Peanut Butter Sugar. Nevertheless this is definitely going to be a sickeningly sweet month and not because of the holiday! 😉

August was all about the transitional scents! All together 10 candles, 17 wax melts, 1 wallflower, 1 soap, and 1 body lotion sum up my month. It was a great fragrance month and here is everything I melted!

August 2016 Candle Empties

Summer Boardwalk (3-wick) – One of my favorite fragrances of all-time; salty popcorn mixed with caramel apples. Will absolutely repurchase for as long as it’s sold.
Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding (3-wick) – Absolutely amazing transitional scent and will repurchase as long as BBW offers it. It’s now labeled as Pumpkin Banana Muffin though.
Sparkling Pear Riesling (3-wick) – Really great effervescent white wine fragrance. Even though this is still on shelves I’ll wait to repurchase next year if it’s re-released.
Spiced Pomegranate Cider (3-wick) – This was an okay scent that was enjoyable but not repurchase worthy; 1 and done!
Bourbon Butterscotch (3-wick) – A fragrance that came out in 2014 and unfortunately smelled burnt when I lit up the last half. While it smells great, I’m not sure I’d repurchase.
Autumn Day (3-wick) – What an amazing fragrance this is. Too bad it had the worst burn problems of any BBW candle, ever. I tried 2 different versions of this candle and both had puny wick syndrome on first burn. On the melter it went and out of my collection it will stay.
Vampire Blood (1-wick) – Definitely a transition scent and not a Halloween scent in the slightest. This was all together fruit punch. Enjoyable, but not my thing.
Orange Dreamsicle (1-wick) – True to life fragrance in adorable packaging from Cracker Barrel, but no throw. I actually made it into wax melts but even then it barely threw.
Sugar Plum (2-wick) – My first McCall’s candle and it smelled delicious, but the throw was on par with YC. One wick ended up drowning and I finished it off on the melter, where I still didn’t smell it. Probably won’t buy from this company again.
Crisp Apple Strudel (1-wick) – I don’t have any other apple scents in my collection like this one. You could actually smell the sugar crystals that would be on top of this divine dessert. As much as I love it, I won’t repurchase due to lack of throw.

August 2016 Wax Empties

Apple Spice – I melted 3 of these YC tarts and only 1 of them had a little throw. Disappointed and just trying to get through the last of their tarts in my stash – will never repurchase from them again.
Candied Citrus Pumpkin – This was great; it had the perfect balance of citrus and spice. Not hoardworthy for me though.
Vanilla Lavender – There was something really off about this, it almost smelled like cologne. Will never repurchase.
Apple Cider Donut – The first fragrance from Kringle I can never be without. It performed wonderfully for about 5 hours then slowly died.
Vanilla Cookie Crunch – A mixer scent that must always be in my collection.
Candy Corn – Another YC tart that had no throw.
Kettle Corn – Crossroads wax melts definitely lose their scent rather quickly if not melted. This had little to no fragrance and it’s another company I won’t buy from again.
Cranberry Chutney – Melted 2 of these tarts from YC that yet again lacked throw.
Autumn Rain – WOW, this Autumn foral scent was beautiful. It was actually so strong that I had an allergic reaction; too bad because I would’ve stocked up.
Covered Bridge – A Fall cologne scent, pass on the repurchase.
At the Fair – Stop what you’re doing and go buy this from Wal-Mart. It’s almost an exact dupe of Summer Boardwalk but a little heavier on the apple. I have already hoarded enough for a few years and have no shame.
Brandied Peach Cobbler – The first peach scent I actually enjoyed! Too bad it barely threw and what I did smell was kind of funky warm. I actually returned my second clamshell.
White Pumpkin – Hell to the no, this was disgusting.
Caramel Apple – Another Crossroads melt with barely any throw.

August 2016 Fragrance Empties

Summer Boardwalk (wallflower) – This version of SB was from the Slatkin era, back in 2012. Either it went very bad sitting in my closet over the years or it was mis-labeled. It actually smelled like BBW’s old Pumpkin Caramel Latte which isn’t bad, just not what I was looking for.
Boardwalk Vanilla Cone (soap) – Wow, this was one of the best soap fragrances ever. It truly smelled like a salty yet sweet ice cream cone. If you can find any left on sale, hoard away!
Summer Marshmallow (body cream) – I have NEVER finished a body cream (or lotion) from BBW in the 10 years I’ve shopped there, until now. I was so impressed with this scent that I’ve hoarded many more. It really reminds me of Peanut Butter Sugar from Goose Creek with more vanilla.

I can’t believe how many home fragrances I went through in August. My absolute favorite was At the Fair from Better Homes and Garden. I’m excited to move on to September now, this is when I burn my 3 favorite apple scents! What did you melt in August and what do you plan on burning in September? Share in the comments!

The month of August holds fond memories for me; long beach days, trips to the fair, ice cream sundaes, and preparing for the Fall. I like to save some of my favorite Summer candles for this month to bring back some of those distant memories. Here are the candles and wax melts I hope to burn through for August 2016.

  • Summer Boardwalk
  • Kettle Corn (melt)
  • Orange Dreamsicle (melt)
  • Banana Nutmeg Bread Pudding
  • Bourbon Butterscotch
  • Sparkling Amber
  • White Pumpkin (melt)
  • Sparkling Pear Riesling

I have no doubt that I’ll be able to burn through these 5 candles and 3 wax melts this month. I’m surprised at the lack of Summer wax melts I have left to melt at this point and won’t be surprised if I dig into my Fall stash early. I may also burn White Chocolate Apple occasionally throughout the month too. I’m excited to start getting back into warmer & comforting scents! What are you planning on burning this month? Even though June was a hot month in Rhode Island, that didn’t stop me from burning through a good chunk of my stash! The summer solstice definitely influenced what I was burning and I ended up melting 7 candles, 6 wax melts, and 2 wallflowers. Here is the complete list of empties:

June 2016 Candle Empties

Midnight Blue Citrus (3-wick candle) – I posted an in-depth review of this at the beginning of the month so I won’t go into too much detail now. Long story short, this was the perfect candle to kick-off my Summer seasonal burns. I really enjoyed it while it lasted but I don’t necessarily need it in my collection.

Island Margarita (3-wick candle) – I really liked this scent on cold in the store and figured it would help get me in the Summer spirit. I actually really didn’t like this candle when burning though. All I could smell was the salted rim of a tropical drink and it just put me off. My fiancé enjoyed it though so when it got puny wick syndrome, I finished it on the warmer. I’ll never repurchase this scent in any form again.

Bahama Fizz (3-wick candle) – This was one of the first candles that started my obsession back in 2012 & I made my first tarts with it. You could almost smell the rum mixed into this fruity fragrance! If BBW ever re-released this I’d probably pick it up again.

Mocha Latte Swirl (3-wick candle) – This is my favorite coffee fragrance to date and I’ve been working on this candle for several months now. It’s the perfect mix of bitter espresso, creamy caramel, and a hint of cocoa. I have hoarded several more already!

Summer Trio (1-wick candle) – This trio candle from Yankee included Summer Scoop, Merry Marshmallow, and Salted Caramel. I loved that it looked like neopolotin ice cream but hated that it barely threw. This definitely was far from my favorite.

Watermelon Lemonade (1-wick candle) – A tried and true scent that we all know and love. I’ll always repurchase but never hoard it.

Seashore (1-wick candle) – Another scent I picked up back in 2012 and really enjoyed this past month! It had a slight undertone of suntan lotion but blended perfectly with salty beach air. It really reminded me of my high school beach days 😉

June 2016 Wax Empties

Fresh Pulled Taffy (wax melt) – This was a scent I was SO excited about. It was a beautiful balance of sea salt, caramel, and strawberry. The melt was very sweet but didn’t throw. I could barely smell this in my small bedroom which was a major disappointment. Glad I gave it a try but won’t repurchase due to the performance.

Sevn’ Up Pound Cake (wax crumbles) – For the past 2 months, I’ve been searching for the perfect lemon-lime scent and this is it! Not only is the balance between citrus and bakery notes done SO well, but you even get a slight fizziness mixed in. I honestly can’t get enough and am thinking of doing a major haul next time Wax Crumbles is stocked!

Blueberry Cheesecake (wax melt) – This is an exact dupe of Wild Berry Cheesecake and the throw was equally amazing. I’ll stick with WBC in the future though due to accessibility and wax texture.

Peanut Butter Sugar (wax melt) – YUM! I also posted an in-depth review for this lovely scent a couple weeks ago. Without too much detail, this was the perfect balance of salty peanuts, warm vanilla, and a waffle cone. Will repurchase forever.

Country Breakfast (wax melt) – This was a nice scent to burn on weekend mornings. It had notes of maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and a hint of apple. While it was pleasant enough, I’m not in a hurry to repurchase.

Watermelon Patch (wax melt) – I love anything and everything watermelon during the Summer. This was an equally delicious fruity scent but definitely had a grassy note mixed in. Compared to other fragrances on the market this was a refreshing & unique blend. I still have plenty other watermelon candles to get through next month though so I’ll hold off on repurchasing.

Caribbean Escape (wallflower) – A great fruity scent that got me in the mood for Summer, but I could barely smell it. This is a Slatkin era version and had trouble evaporating.

Bahama Fizz (wallflower) – Another Slatkin era wallflower that I could hardly smell and barely evaporated. So over it!

Out of everything I melted this past month, Sevn’ Up Pound Cake was my absolute favorite scent! I’ve gotten through the majority of my fruity fragrances and am looking forward to burn some other favorites in my collection next month. What did you melt this month and which was your favorite? Share in the comments!

Each year, May signifies the start of allergy season for me. This also means I usually go on a melting hiatus since I can hardly smell anything. With this in mind, I chose to burn through any half-used candles or scents I wasn’t too fond of this past month.

May 2016 Candle Empties

Winter (3-wick candle) – I burned through most of this back in December and it had puny wick syndrome. Rather than keeping this locked away for another 6 months, I finished it off on the melter. Despite it’s burn issues, this scent will always be a must-have for the colder months.

Marshmallow Fireside (3-wick candle) – Ahh, the amazing MF. The perfect balance of sweet and woodsy that I can’t get enough of during the winter months. This was another I used back in December and finished on the melter during May.

Red Velvet Cheer (3-wick candle) –  Another candle from Decemeber that had puny wick syndrome. A delicious scent that was finished off on the melter.

Banana Cream Cake (1-wick candle) – I’ve had this candle for years and was determined to finish it off at last. This only threw in my small kitchen and smelled exactly like a ripe banana. It was enjoyable while it lasted but I’m not upset that it’s a retired scent.

Mango Sorbet (1-wick candle) – This was a delicious fruity scent that I picked up from Target years ago. It only threw a couple days on the melter and I wouldn’t recommend if it ever popped up on shelves again.

Leaves (1-wick candle) – Another loved candle that was half-burned last Fall. I finished this off on the melter in my bedroom and it was great! It definitely has made me start counting down the days until September. 😉

May 2015 Wax Melt Empties

Blackberry Parfait (wax melt) – I was quite disappointed by this scent since it smelled more like cologne than fruit. I melted this in the bedroom and am happy to be done with it.

Strawberry Lemonade Cupcake (wax melt) – Another GC scent that I was happy to quickly burn through. It lacked the bakery and lemon notes so I was only left with a fake strawberry fragrance.

Archives (wax melt) – When I purchased this from Kringle, I was hoping it would remind me of old library books. It unfortunately was yet another cologne scent. I was impressed by the throw of it though.

Strawberry Cake (wax melt) – This was a birthday gift and not something I would’ve picked up on my own. Another fake strawberry scent that barely threw. Mixing this with Vanilla Cookie Crunch made it quite enjoyable though.

Blueberry Pancakes (wax melt) – I’ve realized that all of Crossroads wax melts pretty much only smell like wax on cold sniff. I’m always impressed once they’re melting though. This was a basic blueberry scent and when warm I could pick up on a maple syrup note. Not something I’d repurchase though.

Wild Berry Cheesecake (wax melt) – WOW. This scent is beyond amazing. I must always have at least 2 backups.

Vanilla Cookie Crunch (wax melt) – While this scent smells lovely on it’s own, it’s a GREAT blending option. Upon melting anything, I try it out with this to see if it’s elevated or not. I finally got through an entire value pack and will quickly be purchasing another!

Sleepy Sloth (wax crumbles) – When I placed an order with Wax Crumbles, this was the free sample it arrived with. I think this was meant to be a relaxing scent but I used it more when my allergies were bothering me. Not the biggest fan but I was happy to try it out.

Watermelon Lemonade (wax crumbles) – I was interested to see how Wax Crumbles version compared to BBW. This wasn’t as tart and did not throw well. I’d rather just stick with BBW.

May 2015 Wallflower Empties

Sugared Lemons (wallflower) – This was the same scent I had going in my living room wallflower plug last month. However, unlike in April, this didn’t perform well. I only got whiffs of it if I stood right above it.

Island Margarita (wallflower) – This might be the worst performing wallflower I’ve ever owned. I smelled it during the first week and then absolutely nothing. It lost it’s gorgeous green color and barely evaporated.

For a melting hiatus month, I sure did burn through quite a bit. I’m glad to have de-stashed some half melted favorites and other not so favorites. Now I’ll have room for the long awaited semi-annual sales this June! 😉 What did you melt this month and which was your favorite? Share in the comments!
